Snow: There Is Too Much Focus on Kidnapped U.S. Soldiers
Snow: There Is Too Much Focus on Kidnapped U.S. Soldiers

On Friday, two U.S. troops were kidnapped at a checkpoint in Iraq. They remain missing. This morning White House Press Secretary Tony Snow criticized the press for spending too much time covering their plight. Watch it:

Transcript:

The thing is the way the war is being covered — and we’ve seen it right now, we have two U.S. servicemen, and god bless them, we hope they’re okay. We’re focusing on them and we forget that since Zarqawi was killed, hundreds of bad guys have been rounded up, there has been a lot of intelligence. The Iraqis have gone ahead mobilized 50,000 men going in the five Baghdad neighborhoods. There is a lot going on there.

Last week, Snow was asked for a reaction to the death toll for U.S. troops in Iraq reaching 2,500. Snow responded: “It’s a number.”

17. I wonder what the statistical likelihood is that they are
brown or black? If they were cute, young blond soldiers, Fux would be all over them every minute of every day, talking about what horrible and deviant things thse brown Iraqi men were doing to our lovely young daughters, just like Jessica Lynch.

38. Pretty low.
Lower than percentage of civilian population for 'black'--and even lower than the precentage of the civilian population for the probably age group involved.

About the same as percentage of civilian population for 'brown', or at least for Latino.

39. I thought it would have been higher for Latino, as they have a pretty
high rate of military service, or at least, they used to as a group.

34. Too bad they're not Duke lacrosse players.
Instead, they're just U.S. soldiers.

to call the family of the two missing soldiers and say just that. Their kidnapping may not suit Bushcos talking points this week, but they are missing and that is serious business.

19. And factor this in...
The mistreatment and murder, of the unarmed prisoners at Abu Ghraib and Gitmo, means that the American soldiers who are captured in wars from here on out, will probably be tortured and murdered too, thanks to Bush/Gonzales/Cheney/Addington/Rumsfeld/Miller. The beheadings in Iraq didn't start until after the Abu Ghraib story came out.

36. A sad situation...
Not only does Bush put the soldiers in harm's way in Iraq, with his lies about WMD and the Iraqi connection to 9/11, but he increases that element of danger and insecurity, many times over, by torturing prisoners and fanning the flames of hatred, by the commission of human rights violations and his "Bring it On" attitude. Letting dogs eat on prisoners, whose hands are tied behind their backs, sounds just like how the Nazi SS death's head squads, tried to "win hearts and minds" in the countries they invaded during WWII. The nazis went with the few bad apple defense, for their evil, inhuman, deeds, at the end of WWII and the civilized world never bought it then either.

WE, have now become THEM, under the neocons. We are now, like the people Americans have detested over the past 230 years. We, the "beacon of freedom" and "the upholders of basic human rights" in years gone by, have become the abusers of those rights and the invaders and subjugators. The terrorists really HAVE changed America since 9/11, in the eyes of the entire planet and the neocons helped the terrorists change us.

The people who started this elective war in Iraq, have without a doubt, helped the terrorists change our country, for the worse. The neocons accuse people like Jack Murtha, of aiding the enemy, by standing up to them and protesting the further senseless effusion of blood in Iraq, but the neocons run like rabbits, from their REAL responsibility, for the aid that they have given, to those real terrorists out there, who would destroy our country.

I pity the soldiers in Iraq, who are aware of the sad truth, about the reason they are being made targets of, 24/7, just so that a corrupt, remorseless, self serving, gang of political thugs, can hold on to the political power they have so selfishly and ruthlessly, grabbed and have even murdered thousands, to hold on to! The Cost of building and maintaining Karl Rove's, "WAR PRESIDENT" is simply monstrous...The cold blooded republicans, who still go along with Bush, in lockstep, are totally repulsive to me.

8. This is Republican support for the troops..."who gives a fuck!"
They weren't smart enough to be born into an uber-wealthy family with connections and a free ride from Dalton to Yale to Harvard to the boardroom, so let them take the bullets and bombs as their reward.

10. I'm surprised Snowjob didn't call the two kidnapped soldiers a "fraction"
After all, 2,500 is "just a number", so 2 ought to be a "fraction".

I hope that those who've been taken are returned safely, but in the meantime, I hope their loved ones tear Snow a new one, publicly, for his callous disregard and insensitivity.

13. If this idiot thinks there's "too much" focus on them now...
...Just wait for the videos to appear....The very best outcome would be a demand for a HUGE ransom-enough to fund insurgents for years to come, and from there the possibilities spiral steeply to an almost unimaginable hell of torture and death....I hope to God our military manages to free them, but the outlook is not sunny. This is the real asymmetric warfare and a real good reason to get the troops the hell out of there-killings have unfortunately become statistics, but kidnapping can be a real "force multiplier" and will continue as long as we leave them targets.....

29. Please tell me this is a hoax
After commenting that the death of 2,500 troops was "a number", please tell me this man was not so insensitive to say that the kidnapping of 2 troops is being over played. Did he really, truly, whine that rather than concentrate on rescuing our troops, we should instead be celebrating "hundreds of bad guys" being rounded up? Oh, and the statement that "there has been a lot of intelligence" begs for a response of "where, because the intelligence sure as hell doesn't exist in the Bush administration.

Can anybody imagine Thomas Jefferson refer to the British troops as "bad guys"? This country is being run by sociopaths with low intelligence, tons of arrogance, and massive amounts of corruption. To the missing troops families, who are now reduced to the agonized waiting, and praying for their loved one's safety, the attitude of the Press Secretary must further their torment.

Every democrat must demand an apology from this insensitive clod, and the demands must come loudly and strongly from our political leaders. This can't be allowed to go unnoticed, because it so perfectly points to the attitude this administration has, of ordinary people being disposable. To them, the worth of a person is only in how they advance the Republican cause. If the troops are unable to kill brown skinned people to further the glorification of the fool Dubya, then we are wasting valuable time on them.

Snow is the perfect person for his job, because he is so much like his boss. Like Bush, he has no soul, no heart, and no compassion. I really don't have sufficient command of the English language to reflect the scorn and disgust I feel for Bush and his followers.
