I just told my son the two soldiers captured in Iraq are OR Nat. Guard
and he's a little freaked out.

He's been feeling guilty (and thankful) that he hasn't been deployed yet.

Prayers please (even if you don't usually pray) for those boys.

5. God, this makes me sick to my stomach.
There is no way these people signed up for this. They're supposed to be helping flood or tornado victims, or quelling state problems.

Our friend Howard is probably heading over there any day. He has no desire to go, and definitely no love for Bush. But he's a lifer and needs his pension.

6. Wondering why Bush/Rove hasn't labeled them defectors....
or Islamic converts since everything in Iraq is going so well.

The Decider has eliminated all the "uncertainty".

7. Sounds like they were regular Army, not Natl. Guard
Edited on Mon Jun-19-06 07:51 AM by Divernan
Do you have a link for any info stating they were National Guard? Because I
saw this link in another thread, indicating they were regular Army:
www.theleafchronicle.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060619/NEWS01/606190304/1002

Babineau joined the Army in August 1998 and came to Fort Campbell the following December.
Menchaca entered the Army in March 2005 and arrived to Fort Campbell four months later.
Tucker arrived at Fort Campbell in Dec. 2005. He is survived by his parents Wesley and Margret Tucker of Burns, Ore.

Multinational Force Iraq spokesman Army Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said the missing soldiers are listed as "duty status and whereabouts unknown." The category changes to "missing in action" if they are not found after 10 days.

Caldwell said a squad of on-call armed U.S. soldiers, called a quick-reaction force, responded within 15 minutes to the attack site.

It said Spc. David J. Babineau, 25, of Springfield, Mass., was killed in the attack.

12. update for you
It appears that the soldiers were attached to the 101st and were not Oregon Guard. I hope this gives you *some* measure of comfort. Please take care of yourself, Viva. I have you and your son in my thoughts.
