Ron Suskind's book, RE: cyanide attack on NYC...
His newly released book, One Percent Doctrine, contends that Al Qaeda planned an attack on the NY subway system in '03 that was eventually aborted.
What am I missing here? Am I alone in my belief that this would have been aired and embraced far and wide by the BFEE if there was any substance to it, especially prior to the '04 election when the admin was trying to strike terror into the hearts of every American?

2. Is this the same guy that wrote that article a few years ago??
About Bush being religiously insane?
Answering to a higher power and all that?

It made the monkey look out of his mind.
It was scathing.
If I can find it, I'll post it.

3. You aren't alone. But, there are good reasons why we didn't hear about

this earlier. No 1, the attack was called off before we even learned about it -- so, essentially, it never really happened, so it hardly shows daring do and decisive action by Dubya. Suskin does try to spin the story that way.

Secondly, the gas generator idea was tried in the mid-1990s by a well-financed, technically sophisticated messianic cult without a great deal of success. Explosives in a backpack are more effective - that's why bombs remain the terrorist's weapon of choice against soft targets, such as subway cars and cafes.

Third, there's Ali. It's not explained what happened to the CIA mole inside of AQ, but one can assume he's not there anymore. The only surprise in Suskin's account is the admission that BushCo and the spooks were lying to us all along when they claimed we had no human sources inside AQ. Now, they tell us there was. Why let the cat out of the bag now? -- that's the mystery here.

6. So the fearless DHS wasn't even aware of this possibility until
after the fact? Why doesn't that surprise me?

4. the book is critical of Cheney-crafted 'One Percent Doctrine'
Edited on Mon Jun-19-06 10:11 AM by npincus
the cyanide attack is just a sensational nugget plucked out of the book by the MSM. The substance of the book needs to be addressed.

Americans no longer trust Republicans to keep them safer than Dems. I don't think the OGGA BOOGA dance will rescue them from public discontent.

5. But we don't have to fight them here as long as we are fighting
them over there. Isn't that the logical extension of the administration's attitude of "we're fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here?" That's why we don't have to secure the ports or give NYC money for counterterrorism. See the terrorists changed their plans for the subway when they realized they needed to go to Iraq to make that country the front in the War on Terror.
