A question about Iraq
In the middle of Iraq's civil war, can U.S. troops stabilize the country by fighting and prolonging the invasion?

Seems that this is what "wait and see" supporters are advocating:

They say they are against the war.

They say the invasion should never have happened.

They say, however, that since American troops are in Iraq, the United States owes it to the Iraqis to complete the invasion (mission).

They say Americans broke it (by lying), so Americans should fix it (by continuing to lie).

They say they the polls don't matter (IOW, damn the polls that show Iraqis want Americans out of their country!)

1. IMO...
We are fighting a force that numbers in the tens of thousands, and regardless of how many we kill, will remain at about the same size because of the intense recruiting effort going on outside and inside Iraq.

They don't care if they live or die, and they have no centralized command structure. There is no general who can order a truce or cease fire. They come, kill everything they see, and then get killed themselves. I don't see how a conventional force such as our own can combat these animals.

They are completely brainwashed and will kill anyone, including fellow muslims, to achieve their goal, which is chaos.

I think it's time that we get out of there. I know it sounds awful, but maybe the only person brutal enough to keep that country stable was someone like Saddam. Maybe the Middle East just isn't ready for democracy like * says it is.

2. Biden on an Iraqi democracy
By misrepresenting the facts, misunderstanding Iraq, and misleading on the war, this Administration has brought us to the verge of a national security debacle.

As a result, many Americans have already concluded that we cannot salvage Iraq. We should bring all our forces home as soon as possible.

They include some of the most respected voices on military matters in this country, like Congressman Jack Murtha. They’re mindful of the terrible consequences from withdrawing. But even worse, in their judgment, would be to leave Americans to fight – and to die – in Iraq with no strategy for success.

I share their frustration. But I’m not there yet. I still believe we can preserve our fundamental security interests in Iraq as we begin to redeploy our forces.

Snip...

The President has to be realistic about the mission and forget his grandiose goals. Iraq will not become a model democracy anytime soon.
