Winner of Five Draft Deferments Cheney: Iraq at a "Turning Point"
Edited on Mon Jun-19-06 04:55 PM by NNN0LHI

Vice President Cheney said today that when this period in the Iraq war is remembered, it will be seen as a turning point for the long-term future of the embattled country.

Cheney, speaking at the Gerald R. Ford Journalism Prize luncheon in Washington, also said it was "not an accident" that the United States has not suffered another terrorist attack since Sept. 11, 2001.

"This will have been, from a historical turning point, the period that we'll be able to look at and say: That's when we turned the corner; that's when we began to get a handle on the long-term future of Iraq," Cheney said in response to a question at the National Press Club luncheon.

Cheney cited the election of an interim government in Iraq, the drafting of a constitution, the national referendum approving the constitution, and the recent appointment of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki as signs that the future is more positive in Iraq.

4. There have been "turning points" every several months or so, as it
has been designed, no doubt.

And there will continue to be new "turning points" with no substantive change until we leave.

7. It's a turning point for this country, not Iraq
Iraq will be rife with sectarian and religious violence until that artificial construct of the Brits after World War I sorts itself out. It's us who are at the turning point: The Constitution and our rights, or the control of an elite? To quote the vice president in one of his more eloquent moments, go fuck yourself, Cheney.

9. His war acumen is unique.
From the final botched rescue mission of the Vietnam to now, he's been a one man wrecking crew.

11. They have missed so many turning points they must be off the map by now.
I guess they need a GPS.
