5. Yea I know, but usually the nay sayers are only 2 or 3%.
Lou even had one of his reporters say that the business community has agreed an increase of the min wage wouldn't harm their business, and that Congress now has NO EXCUSE!

Lou said he was sure they'd come up with something!

He's all pi**ed off tonight because they haven't increased the min wage, and the total fines for employing illegals has been $212,000, but BOY the admin is sure on top of enforcing the law! They increased the fines for indeent speech on the airwaves by 1,000% from $32,500 to $325,000!!!!

3. Probably will move some more jobs offshore,

as long as nothing is done about offshoring.

Though that might not be reason not to increase minimum wage.

4. In a finite labor pool, it would help workers
With the current essentially limitless pool of below minimum wage labor, it'll provide a greater incentive to hire illicit workers.

One more reason to get a handle on immigration - it makes the phrase "minimum wage" meaningful again.

6. Well said
The minimum wage is only relevant if employers are forced to pay it. Illegal immigration makes it irrelevant.

9. The same imbeciles predict "gloom and doom" every time
... an increase to the minimum wage is proposed. Inflation! Unemployment! The sky will fall!

Absolutely no such impact ever occurs. You'd think anyone with a brain at least the size of a mousquito's would realize the federal minimum wage has been increased more than 15 times in the last 60 years and none of these hackneyed and idiotic impacts have ever been seen. The mental and ethical pathology of repeating the same, tired, baseless bullshit every time and expecting different results is pretty well established.

Even more, the impact of a declining minimum wage is fairly well-established: poverty, declining health, increased unemployment, inequity. Funny how the "supply-siders" don't seem to know where the "supply" is. :eyes:

10. No easy answer on that one...
...In places like NYC and San Francisco, it would have no effect whatsoever because the de facto minimum wage is already higher than the increase would likely be.

Would some industries increase outsourcing? Maybe, but not likely. If the outsourcing was cheaper than paying the increase, they very well might but those folks are already on the outsourcing train as is.

However, in places like Alabama it would provide an excuse for some business owners--not all--to start firing folks simply because in those places the socio-economic/cultural norm is such that they could easily get away with it and use it an excuse to blame liberals for another problem.

Although one has to wonder, especially in our present environment where thousands of workers are laid off as a response to the unprofitable policies and decisions of CEOs who wish to keep their wealth.

It would likely be a mixed bag of results with no easy answers across the board.

12. Increasing the minimum wage only causes unemployment because of...
...Neo-Liberal, Corporate-Globalist free-trade policies.
