Who can stop them?
IF Fitz can't do it, if the Republican congress won't do it, if the voters will be stopped from doing it, who is left to stop them?

What's left but civil disobedience? If Bush continues on his march to dismantle this country, does it mean we have to start marching in the streets to be heard?

2. $5/gallon would result in an unintended general strike.
Which would probably be more effective.

3. What we're seeing on the national level, this continual uncovering
of corruption after corruption and the inability to do anything to stop it, is exactly what I experienced as an activist at the local level. I realized it was never ending. The white culture in this country has absorbed it and it's endemic. You just can't shame them, nor shock them anymore. You tell them Bush lied to Congress, they say that Kerry flip-flopped on the Iraq vote. It's so absurd.

14. one of the things I love most about liberals is the live & let live idea
The acceptance of all colors as part of the universal rainbow of beauty! The acceptance of all sexual identities as equally worthwhile. The idea that it is the reponsibility of those who have to put a hand back to help lift up those who haven't had the same advantages.

I guess the "white culture" bit just felt like a slap upside the head to me for no reason (except maybe my pale skin).

9. White American Male. The party of the white flight voter.
Yes, sir. The people who think they're the salt of this country, heartland Christians with pure solid beliefs. The only belief they have is that the means justifies the end.

and there isn't a KKKristian racist among them.

Perhaps we can identify these folks as the american taliban or by their older name as klansmen or racists... but let's not paint all white men with that broad a brush.

17. Sorry, but this is a campaign issue. The GOP is not
diverse, and neither are their voters. We're sitting here expecting for their constituents, who are primarily WHITE VOTERS, to do the right thing. But it's never going to happen, not because they're too ignorant to figure things out, but because they no longer have the old standards for what is right or wrong. They just like that their WHITE LEADERS, are accomplishing what their prejudices and gut feelings tell them is the right thing to do. They don't care that the constitution gets broken every day by this president. If they did, THEY would be writing to their congressmen supporting impeachment.

26. I know many white liberals, and I think you should reframe your issue
Edited on Tue Jun-20-06 05:37 AM by peacebird
Smearing all whites for the actions of the far right is like smearing ALL Christians for what the kkkristians of the GOP leadership say and do. There are Christians who remember the words and life of Christ and try to live in a Godly fashion. Then there are kkkristians who live as tho THEY are God (or at least have a direct pipeline to Him and know what he needs to have done - since their "god" is too weak to take care of things himself...)

There are white liberals and then there are the GOP far right whites and their buddies the white supremacists.

All whites are not cut from the same cloth, and you diminish your message by suggesting they are.

27. That's an impossibility.
Can you refrain from talking about hispanics without making sweeping statements about hispanics? Can you do the same for blacks? The Republican party is very much determined to keep a "white culture" in power. If you wish to add the word "conservative white culture," then I will add it as a compromise.

18. Th op said nothing about republicans it said "white culture" and..........
....believe it or not there are a few around here with slightly pale skin. People of color don't like what appears to be a racial slap anymore than anyone else does. It's comments like "the white culture" that prevent the Democratic Party from making any more progress than they do because periodically everyone has to step back a mile and fight those same racial battles from the past, for the millionth time.

At least this time is wasn't that "white culture" making the racial references.:applause:

19. Maybe you should see it from my point of view.
I have to leave my county in order to meet Liberals. This is very much a white culture community that I live in. They are incredibly insular and very defined and it is based along racial lines.

In their eyes, you're not white. You're Liberal.

That's what I find so sad. I can see that division, and I think it's in your interest to see it too. You want to reclaim the title, be my guest.

22. Sorry you see it that way.
Republicans are quite comfortable pandering to the "White culture." We would be remiss in talking about it in those terms because of PC. There is no room for PC today. Most people can see the difference without further explanation. I'm of hispanic descent and I surely don't get offended each time someone brings up observations that may be critical of the hispanic culture.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

21. No need to go to the streets, this is a 'movement' like global warming.
If no one stops it, if we continue down the BFEE path, the State of our Union will continue to diminish to a point where we will be forced to do something out of simple survival. By that time individual States will have to do something out of a need to exist as sovereign entities. When the 'Good of the People' no longer stands as a fundamental principle of society, total self preservation (by any means) becomes the new rule of law as the nation falls apart and society adjusts to a new environment.

37. No they don't know or care because locality is relative.
As long as the 'average person' can go to the store and buy groceries, go occasionally and see a play/movie/sport, have instant everything (from DSL to coffee) there will be NO changes. It takes more than just the 'average person' to see outside the box and into the future.

Adam Smith wrote that we all serve for the better good of the species out of a need for our own self preservation. When that bond breaks between individuals is when we will be in the streets...looking for food and water. At that moment our society will breakdown and we will all be in a world of shit. Well, us poor people will be. Can't speak for the rich.

that much power, concentrated in so few whackjob hands . . .

the republicans LOST two presidential elections. what are we stuck with: 8 years of fuckboy.

NOTHING CHANGED.

the people are impotent against well-funded corporate interests and a republican machine that makes tammany hall look like a girl scout troop.

31. Many believe
they will never let go of power", but there's a chance the people "from both sides of the aisle" can pry it from there hands. Many people are breaking ranks with the NeoCons. IE. "Grover Norquist, the principal organizer of the conservative movement who is close to the Bush White House and usually supports its policies, says, "If you interpret the Constitution's saying that the president is commander in chief to mean that the president can do anything he wants and can ignore the laws you don't have a constitution: you have a king." He adds, "They're not trying to change the law; they're saying that they're above the law --http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/060506E.shtml

I see many churches breaking ranks, so keep the faith that good people will stand in the NeoCons way.

if the military refusals continue.
And we may not be far from that point.
The troops are in despair and the
troops are the ONLY thing holding up the house

It's going to be interesting to see what happens next.
