Hidden in plain sight. Why is the "green zone" secure?
This administration has been trying to claim that they didn't need the amount of troops that Gen. Shinseki advised they go into Iraq with to secure the country.

Condi Rice even said on MTP "there are those who wanted a bigger footprint in Iraq"....blah, blah, blah...

Well, why is it that the "green zone" is secure but the rest of the country isn't?

Could it possibly be that the area known as the "green zone" has a significant, sufficient amount of troops to secure that area?

Pro-rate what it takes to secure the country and you probably have a number close if not more than what General Shinseki had advised in the first place.

1. The only space the military controls is where it is at any moment
The green zone is a bunker, a very large bunker.

It is not safe for occupation forces outside bunkers.

It is the definition of a war we have lost, utterly and irreconcilably.

Its over, except for further killing and maiming on both sides so that the Cheney administration can pretend it wasn't defeated. Dead people for sick egos

2. "Dead people for sick egos." That sums it up for me as well.
That's the only reason we'll still there; their egos can't handle the truth.
And the green zone is the ONLY safe place in Bagdad which is why journalists live there.
When they step out of that comfort zone (if you can call it that), there's the potential for getting blown up as has been proved. :-(

4. I don't think it's all that secure.
Snipers and mortars are a big problem last I heard. They just keep out the car bombs.

6. You also have to move everybody else out
We can have peace in Iraq if we move everybody except our soldiers out. Iran, Syria...?

7. I tried to locate it on Google Earth, but couldn't find any marker
I suspect it might be in an area adjacent to the Euphrates (or is it the Tigris?) that provides water protection on 3 sides.
