Poll question: When the sad history of THIS Iraq War is done, will we have learned
ANYTHING AT ALL?

My greatest sadness is not only at the debacle of Gulf War II, that is a done deal, and irreversible, it only remains how much longer before the inevitable denouement.

My sadness is that it appears that this will come and go and we will learn nothing more than was apparently learned a generation or two ago from Vietnam.

RWers and we will "learn" DIFFERENT "lessons": RWers will once again convince themselves that the failure was due to the media and the left, although their own unwillingness to enlist in the war or pay taxes for it ought to provide a clue...

And 10-20 years from now, when the next demagogue takes power (if indeed we are ever freed from this national nightmare that is shrubco), we will be primed for the exact same WMD/Tonkin crap, like watching the next train wreck a generation in advance, in slow motion...

1. We will learn no ever learns...
to make war no more. Nations are lead to war by liars, who should be committed to mental institutions, and because they devalue the people they are fighting. So long as humanity does not have some formal system to deal with its problems before they result in war, there will be war.

3. I Voted Other.
I said other because 20 years ago when I heard people from both sides saying "never again", I was stupid enough to believe them.

I turned 51 today. I have 20-30 years left. I will optimistically say 30 because longevity tends to run in my family. In the time I have left, I intend to keep my mouth VERY open. Hopefully, at least my son will learn and first, stay away from the Army when a right wing republican is in office, second, hold the media accountable and third, NEVER be silent because the republicans say that you have no right to speak.

What will the right learn? One of 2 things.

1 Absolutely fuckin' nothing! or

2 How to be more dangerously manipulative liars than ever.

Either one is a freakin' disaster!

5. As with all wars, those who profit will
have learned to ramp up fear and paranoia, to manipulate government contracts, how to buy politicians, All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.

Que Cera...
