Schwarzenegger to help raise money for gay Republicans group

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger plans to headline a fundraiser for gay Republicans in Hollywood next week in what would be his first appearance in front of a gay audience since he took office, according to the event's organizers.

The June 29 fundraiser for Log Cabin Republicans comes as Schwarzenegger considers whether to veto a bill that would require chapters from gay history to be added to public school text books in California. The governor already has indicated he opposes the measure.

The governor's stock has been down with gay rights groups since he vetoed a gay marriage bill in September. The action won him the dubious honor of receiving this year's "pink brick" award, bestowed on the public figure who organizers of the San Francisco gay pride parade decide has most hurt the gay rights cause.

But the Log Cabin Republicans, a group for gay and lesbian GOP members that publicly parted company with President Bush after he supported a federal gay marriage ban, have stood by Schwarzenegger since they endorsed him to unseat Democrat Gray Davis during the 2003 recall.





I don't care if they parted ways with POS Bush out of self-interest. They still support his filthy illegal war on Iraq, and his war against the poor and middle class at home. Like I said, trashy - like all republicans.

1. Log Cabin Republicans...
They aren't like your average republican. They generally don't follow the party, and are republicans because of the party's strong business ideals. There were about 1 million LCRepub's back in 2000, but that number has been drastically reduced. While they call themselves republicans, I would classify most as business-concerned liberals. They don't like Bush, but they don't support the Democrat's economic policies.

2. I have a dumb question...
why are they called "log cabin" republicans? Every time I hear it, i think to myself "Self, you should find out why they call themselves that"...and then my mind just wanders off topic.....

8. Nope!
The group is named "Log Cabin Republicans" because Lincoln was the first republican president to be born in the US. He was born... in a log cabin. They were going to be the "Lincoln Club," but that was taken. Only recently have historians thought Lincoln may have been gay- and has nothing to do with his sleeping in a log cabin (but everything to do with his sleeping with men).

3. That is enough for me to dislike them intensely...
...since the democratic party's economic policies are too right-wing and pro-corporate for my taste as it is. And I'm pretty sure the Log Cabinoids are generally pro-war, too.


Of course they don't follow the party, since the party's favorite scapegoat, strawman and whipping boy for everything is gays.

When they vote to put republicans in office, they are following the party.

It's generally the republicans who hate gay and lesbian people.

Not progressives and liberals.

They're idiots to have anything to do with the GOP.

6. i remember one gay Republican on the radio complaining
about how most guys would not want to see him anymore when they found out he was a Republican. he went on about lack of tolerance among liberal gays and how it was hypocritical because liberals claim to be about tolerance and differences .
