Kerry's response to "Cut and Run"
is "Lie and Die". He is on Imus right now and he says that the republicans are great at getting their three little word talking point. He said this is what they are going to use to label Democrats for the upcoming election. And this is what our response should be.

Newt Gingrich's 1996 GOPAC memo

needs to be read and re-read by DUers. This is how the GOP plays hardball, folks. Kerry just hit the ball outta the park !

I'm surprised to hear you describe Ford as conservative. Sure, he's to the right of Barney Frank, but nearly all congresscritters are!

What are his conservative positions? I've heard him speak plenty of times and would never have defined him that way.

20. Sorry. I'll clarify.
Conservative in the sense of his center to center left politics, demeanor and public speaking manner i.e. more of a LA Democrat and not really a MASS Democrat. He is well spoken, handsome and very smooth. I think he has a chance to win.

He is connecting to even some of the eastern TN (conservative Dem) people.

Note: I grew up in east TN, daughter of a John Birch Society Repub. I was in Chatt., TN last weekend and I saw many Ford campaign signs.

According to a phone survey done by Zogby:

Corker - 46% to Ford - 42%
Hilleary - 43% to Ford - 41%
Bryant and Ford tied with 42% each.

I haven't stumbled across anything current that only polls the 3 (r)s, but I'll keep looking around, 'cause I know what I found doesn't really answer your question.

77. Believe it or not - I had an interesting run in with Howard Baker in '00
He had on his "Elector" t-shirt and we were pumping gas and I did explain that if I were an elector and if the shoe were on the other foot I would've probably committed suicide later, but if it seemed that the people in FL actually voted for Bush**, in good faith and conscience I couldn't cast that vote in TN for the person who didn't win the popular vote, but I would've had to trust what I perceived to be the will of the people. He grunted at me. (In other words had the shoe been on the other foot and it was obvious that something had gone horribly wrong with the election I would have voted for Bush** (puke, puke, gag, gag, cough, sputter).

Then I mentioned that my husband had told me that having a conscience like that is exactly why I would never be allowed to be an elector. He was red faced and not happy to have encountered me that morning to say the least!

That's when I realized that partisanship and winning means more to the republicans than seeking anything that resembles the truth or doing what is correct.

JK was truly on (that man has amazing energy, even early in the morning!) and you know that if Rove came up with a phrase like that "Lie and die!" it would be being spouted by every media personality, on every news show, by every Republican calling into every talk show within five minutes. And it would go on relentlessly until it was as familiarly stuck in every American mind (Republican, Democrat and Independent) as "Where's the beef?"

The Right Wing Noise Machine is equal parts the MSM's slavish repetition of anything the GOP comes up with and the organization of partisan loyalists who will repeat it on talk shows, in LTTE's, on blogs.

We may not have the MSM (though kudos to Kerry for continuing to make appearances like this to spread his message to the people even if the MSM won't do it!) but we have the same power those loyalists have. Let's have some loyalist action on our side! If the MSM won't make "Lie and die" part of the popular consciousness, why don't we do it?

Every time you talk about the war, use that phrase (and attribute it to Kerry!) And, while you're at it, talk about what he's proposing to bring the troops home and stop the dangerous acceleration of terrorism and violence that our presence in Iraq is fueling.

This administration lied us into a war and they're lying about what's happening to our troops. LIE AND DIE! The Bush Administration, from putting the troops in harm's way unnecessarily by not having a strategy in place for getting into or out of Iraq (LIE AND DIE!) to not supporting them with adequate equipment or body armor (LIE AND DIE!) to not caring enough to fund programs for returning veterans and their families (LIE AND DIE!) has proven again and again that they would rather LIE while our troops and innocent Iraqis DIE to hold onto their power than see the democracy and peace they claim to want in the region.

Call them on it! Expose their lies and hypocrisy!

Here's the challenge: get that phrase "LIE AND DIE" out there in five different places today. Write it in a blog comment, call a talk show and use it, write a LTTE, send an e-mail about it to family and friends, whatever you can think of to get it into the general consciousness!

If you have ideas for how we can do this, post them here!

55. Sad response from Imus
I heard the conversation on Imus' show this morning... and although Kerry was livid and articulate, Don Imus seemed bored with the whole conversation... did not offer any response or affirmation. Sometimes I enjoy Imus and his guests, but sometimes he really pisses me off (especially when he has his wife on the show... not a very bright woman...)...

More folks should have heard Kerry's conversation...

57. I didn't think he was bored as much as he saw that Kerry
was absolutely OWNING the conversation. Imus tried to get some of his silliness in - but Kerry diffused it very quickly. (Imus was desperate enough to playfully insist about 4 times that Kerry thought he was President. Kerry refused to bash either Biden or Dodd.

I really don't think Imus is interested in policy - on anything. He far more enjoys the political in-fighting. Even on his own issues, Imus is only interested in his own preset comments. He speaks about his wife's work with Hackensack medical Center all the time but ignored Kerry when he mentioned it.

I think he resents that Kerry had by far the best of the conversation - where he usually has the upper hand with others.
