I finally figured it out......minimum wage
People that make minimum wage are invisible in our society. The are the waitresses in the corner diner, the housekeeper at the motel, the guy at the car wash, the gal that bags your groceries at the supermarket. If you choose not to see them how can you possibly see the dilemma they are in....and more importantly CARE?

1. They are not invisible to those who have "compassion" for others
They are invisible to those who don't want to deal with such things, the rich or the wannabe rich who look down on these people.

2. Pretty much
A similar thing occurred to me about taxes. The Cons whine incessantly about paying taxes; especially paying taxes for welfare and social security. You know, those nasty "socialist" programs. Since they aren't directly seeing how that money helps, they conclude that it's being wasted by the tax and spend liberals.

6. The biggest recievers of welfare are
CORPORATIONS!! FACT!

I agree with you on everything you wrote, just thought I'd add that fact above!

Take a look at this: http://www.progress.org/banneker/cw.html
Corporate Welfare * The Shame Page *

http://www.corporations.org/welfare/
"The $150 billion for corporate subsidies and tax benefits eclipses the annual budget deficit of $130 billion.
It's more than the $145 billion paid out annually for the core programs of the social welfare state:
Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), student aid, housing, food and nutrition,
and all direct public assistance (excluding Social Security and medical care)."

:grr:

8. This has to be one of the best
questions to ask BOTH sides of the aisle for 2008. What was Bush-41 asked in his debate?

4. Actually
waitresses make LESS than minimum wage as a standard because TIPS are figured in as part of their hourly rate!

My son works part-time in a grocery store cashiering, bagging groceries, and fills in in the deli.
(after he begged for more hours so he can save to buy a car. They gave him six extra hours, in the deli, a week)
He's been working for this grocery store for three years, this coming August.
He just got another raise and now makes $8.50 an hour. BUT IT TOOK HIM THREE YEARS and he's only 17 now!
There are many women working there, new hires, and I'm sure they ARE making minimum wage!
Luckily here in MA., the minimum is higher than the federal, and this grocery store chain is considered 'blue'!

But you are correct. The low wage, less educated are IGNORED in this country. They are invisible!!

9. They aren't invisible to me!
I probably talk to more minimum-wage-earners in a day than any other
kind of person.

I try to help them out where I can.

I don't talk with many C.E.Os in a typical day.
