is deluding themselves. Shoshana Johnson was on CNN on Sunday, she said these guys are in trouble because it's different now. She was treated as a POW,that's all done with now.

1. If we don't acknowledge and respect the Geneva Conventions,
why should they? I hope military families consider this when lauding this admin.

4. There are too many people who don't live in the real world.
That's a problem for the rest of us.

5. We've done it.
Edited on Tue Jun-20-06 10:48 AM by sparosnare
These young men were treated this way in retaliation for the abuses we've doled out since the beginning of the launch of the "war on terror" and the occupation of Iraq. The Geneva Conventions were developed for a reason, and the stupid fucks running our country never thought twice that their actions might actually put our soldiers in situations like this.

It's tragic we've sunk so low as a nation.

6. George bush caused it.
Not Saddam, not Osama, not Zarqawi, Bush himself did this.

7. and now the collective punishment will undoubtedly begin in real earnest
Unfortunately, the U.S. response will likely resemble it's response to the deaths of mercenaries in Fallujah-- more violence against innocent people, more killings, more destruction. More bombs and artillery dropped on houses full of women and children to kill the men who might or might not be there with them. More "rough interrogations," and more disappearances.

You cannot occupy a nation against its will with a military garrison, no matter how strong, without unremitting violence or without exhausting the will of the occupied people. Accomplishing THAT takes years of death and suffering, or violence against innocents on a massive scale. This is what the U.S. has undertaken in Iraq.
