MSNBC: Republicans relish any debate with Democrats on Iraq

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3626796/

<snip>

Republicans relish any debate with Democrats on Iraq, but particularly one with the former Democratic presidential nominee. One Senate GOP leadership aide e-mails, "Whatever we can do to help Senator Kerry figure out his position on the war and court the liberal base, we're happy to oblige."

1. There's nothing to be gained by engaging Republican's in a ...
debate. Let the news out of Iraq do the debating for you.

2. It should be just the opposite
Dems should demand debate with the other party over Iraq. And why didn't MSNBC name the "Senate GOP leadership aide"? In the words of bush, "Bring it on." And do they really want Kerry? Why don't they ask for Murtha? Becasue the gop is a sinking ship and they know it. Murtha would chew 'em up and spit 'em out.

5. Kerry's position on Iraq has always remained the same. He has
revised his plan based on changing circumstances in Iraq. I think it is about time we had this debate- go ahead you lying repubs, bring it on, we are ready, willing and able. However, you are not allowed to bring the three word lying catch phrases to hide behind, this is to be a real debate on a serious and dangerous situation.

6. And Kerry will be happy to kick their LYING DISINGENUOUS ^sses
All the repugs have is disingenuous talking points, distortions of the truth, projection and outright lies.

Kerry and Feingold will make mincemeat of them.

Now, if only media will report rather than promoting Rove spin.

8. GOPs won't even debate Kerry face to face on the floor of the Senate
so I highly doubt ONE OF THEM would debate him in a televised setting.

9. Republicans can't even figure out their own position on Iraq...
...except that they want to make as much money as possible from the occupation.

10. How did the Republicians convince anyone
they know what they are doing in Iraq or in America? When will the People exercise their control over the Government and stop this Rogue Regime?

11. Somehow I doubt this.
The Republicans want to scare the Dems away from the subject, true. But the Repubs are on the edge of the precipice and they know it. Time to push them off.

12. Yup....
and this false challenge is just the ammo the Dems needed to showcase how devoid the repuke (plan????) is.

I for one hope they demand a debate one on one, not a 3 minute question from biased (journalist???) with a 30 sec answer, but real dialogue for all the world to see.

OH, and the mike should be turned off for the person who does not have the floor!!!!

Republicans have been spinning like mad since Zarqawi was killed; hasn't changed the fact that people are still dying. Things are no better despite their propoganda.

I don't think they can win on a debate over Iraq when the situation is only worsening, no matter how much they attack our Democrats' character.

14. They want to make this about Kerry, not Iraq.
Edited on Tue Jun-20-06 02:07 PM by Clarkie1
Kerry is helping them achieve this; he's already "flipped" (or is it flopped?) his timetable once from the end of 2006 to July 2007.

I'm using distateful Republican talking points just to make a point: I'm sure the Republicans would love to make this about Kerry. If I were a Republican strategist, it would be quite easy, here's what it would sound like:

Senator Kerry seems unable to make up his mind on a withdrawl date, yet offers no plan for success. I don't know how he comes up with these dates, or why he keeps changing his mind, but we are committed to a success, and will not set arbitrary dates for withdrawl. First Kerry was for the war, then he was against it. Now he seems to be for a withdrawl date, then against that date and for another. He seems to be a man unable to make up his mind about anything.
