Reminder!!!! "The Dark Side" on Frontline tonight! Cheney's involvement

in the war on terror and the Iraq War. Check your local schedule. It's on my Charter Cable at 10PM EST on our local public television station GPB. I thought I read last week that it was on PBS at 9PM.

At that moment, CIA Director George Tenet was meeting with his counter-terrorism team in Langley, Virginia. Both leaders acted fast, to prepare their country for a new kind of war. But soon a debate would grow over the goals of the war on terror, and the decision to go to war in Iraq. Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, and others saw Iraq as an important part of a broader plan to remake the Middle East and project American power worldwide. Meanwhile Tenet, facing division in his own organization, saw non-state actors such as Al Qaeda as the highest priority. FRONTLINE's investigation of the ensuing conflict includes more than forty interviews, thousands of pages of documentary evidence, and a substantial photographic archive. They presented a clear, easy-to-follow narrative which has long been needed. I hope lots of people saw this!

So many good people are speaking out, writing books, giving interviews ... and yet I cannot see the end of this miserable dark chapter in our nation's history.

If the republic survives, if we are still a democracy when our children and grandchildren are ready to vote, then historians will surely agree that this was our darkest and most dangerous hour, when we came within a handsbreadth of losing our soul as a nation.

This episode of Frontline is an excellent summary of events and I hope a lot of people (besides us!) watched it.
