Police bypass subpoenas to get Americans' phone records

Practice raises civil liberties questions

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal and local police across the country -- as well as some of the nation's best-known companies -- have been gathering Americans' phone records from private data brokers without subpoenas or warrants.

These brokers, many of whom market aggressively across the Internet, have broken into customer accounts online, tricked phone companies into revealing information and sometimes acknowledged that their practices violate laws, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.

Legal experts and privacy advocates said police reliance on private vendors who commit such acts raises civil liberties questions.

Those using data brokers include agencies of the Homeland Security and Justice departments -- including the FBI and U.S. Marshals Service -- and municipal police departments in California, Florida, Georgia and Utah. Experts believe hundreds of other departments frequently use such services.

"We are requesting any and all information you have regarding the above cell phone account and the account holder ... including account activity and the account holder's address," Ana Bueno, a police investigator in Redwood City, California., wrote in October to PDJ Investigations of Granbury, Texas.

2. Fascist POS's!
They own us now and do not worry about being held accountable.

Why should they? Most legislation is written to protect them nowadays.

I love the "Orwell was 20 years off" poster! Rereading 1984 now. Argh! It IS their instruction manual, no doubt.

Thanks DA.:hi:

5. How cool! How long ago was that anyway?
Has this regime been here forever now?

It sure feels like it.

I received Photo-shop 7 as a gift a few months ago, any advice on how or where online to learn to conquer it? I have never photo-shopped anything and just kind of drool and rock when I try. I can catch on pretty quickly with good direction and unfortunately I am in the boonies so no classes nearby. :(

Thanks!

8. I keep signs in my yard, very visible along a
very well-traveled route in a pretty red area of rural NW Pa. I hear many horns honking as they pass. And I have bumper-stickers calling him and the dick the war criminals and terrorists they are. Home blogging as I don't live near anything huge.

I've even volunteered :puke: to give that asshat a bj to get him out! Whatever it takes now!
