Dead Marine to Mom: This Mission Is Going To Take Us Years....
WAR CASUALTY
Marine Was 'Mr. Ski' to Iraqi Kids
Sergeant Inspired Brothers, Friends to Join the Military

By Brigid Schulte
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, June 21, 2006; Page B03

Diana Ross was angry when her son signed up for a second tour of duty with the Marines in Iraq. He was a trained sniper and paratrooper and served in a reconnaissance battalion, on the front lines every day searching for insurgents. As a Christian, she worried about the killing. As a mother, she feared for his life. "I need to know," she demanded when she called him on the phone, "exactly what is the plan over there?"

5. Another thing that stood out to me about the mother's comments..
she knew her son was killing people, she wasn't sure what the justification was, and it didn't square with her evangelical christian beliefs. The minister tied it all up in a neat little bow at the funeral for her though:

At his funeral in Ohio, at Ross's Willoughby Hills Evangelical Friends Church, the pastor spoke of Gideon, the biblical warrior who, because he trusted God, conquered 120,000 Midianites with 300 men. The congregation read Psalm 23, about dwelling in the house of the Lord forever.

The fundamentalist hypocrites will find a way to justify anything.

2. RIP, 'Mr. Ski'.
A Poem That I Wrote In A High Fever

You who are lengthening your lives
with the best doctors and the best medicines
remember those who are shortening their lives
with the wars
that you in your long lives are not
preventing.

You who are again screwing
the younger generations
and winking at each other
the winking of your eyelids
is like the chill of the swinging shutters
in an empty house.

-- Yehuda Amichai

4. Quick somebody tell Coulter, Limbaugh, Hannity et al
to begin the smear of the "Harpy" for profiting upon her son's death...
