3. They aren't really that far apart as media makes it - both WANT withdrawal
but Kerry-Feingold is asking for stronger commitment to withdrawal.

this is the passage that's been overlooked in the NYT article about fuming Democrats:

Although Mr. Kerry's approach is to be debated last, the Democratic leadership has arranged that it be voted on first, before the Levin-Reed proposal. In the interview, Mr. Kerry said that if his amendment failed, he might consider voting for the alternative "as a means of making some statement." But, he said, "My preference is, we take some strong position that's got a date."

that's as unified as any party can be.

5. Exactly - but, it takes Kerry all the time to emphasize the truth while it
seems others are willing to play into PERCEPTION perpetuated by the lying media.
