Lynne Cheney visits Alabama to support reading initiative

I wonder if "Sisters" was touted as fine reading???

====

Lynne Cheney visited Birmingham yesterday to support Kiwanis Club of Birmingham's Reading Is Fundamental program.

Cheney, a historian with a P-h-D (note: the newspaper's own abbreviation) from the University of Wisconsin, shared excerpts from one of her children's history books. She told the group of fourth through eighth graders from to think of history as a story.

She said America's story is that of a country that - quote -- "really started out pretty good but kept getting better."

At a lunch meeting, Cheney encouraged members of the city's Kiwanis Club to research their family history as way to explore American history.

4. my favorite part of the Birmingham News story
When Cheney took questions, her young audience was most interested in her life as the wife of a vice president. "Do you own a Jacuzzi?" one child asked. Another wanted to know, "Are you rich?" Then there was the big one, "Is your husband still alive?"

I wish they had reported her answers.
