W.H. PROCUREMENT officer convicted in ABRAMOFF related
... assist corrupt super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff .... took place while Safavian was the Bush-appointed chief of staff at the General Services Administration.
as so many others in Washington have learned before him, it's not the crime, it's the cover-up. And for Safavian, some of that cover-up was carried out from his White House office.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy...5041100879.html
the article also points out that in most cases the Whitehouse connection is barely or NOT at all mentioned in much of the mainstream media's coverage.

this relates,interesting...

Quote:
"George W. Bush was the attraction, and the White House the venue...alleged perpetrator of the largest billing fraud in the history of corporate lobbying. In May 2001, Jack Abramoff’s lobbying client book was worth $4.1 million .... a friend of Karl Rove.. a Bush “Pioneer,” delivering at least $100,000 in bundled contributions...work on the Bush Transition Team as an advisor to the Department of the Interior.
He had sent his personal assistant Susan Ralston to the White House to work as Rove’s personal assistant.
He was a close friend, advisor, and high-dollar fundraiser for... Tom DeLay.
.....
Abramoff was so closely tied to the Bush Administration that he charged his clients $25,000 for a White House lunch date, and meeting with the President. From the same two clients he took to the White House in May 2001, Abramoff also obtained $2.5 million in contributions for a non-profit foundation he and his wife operated....
Abramoff’s White House guests were the chiefs of two of the six casino-rich Indian tribes he and his partner Mike Scanlon ultimately billed $82 million for services tribal leaders now claim were never performed "

Just amazing. I don't know what is happening with this....This is still a fairly current story ...
"DeLay's sex abuse victims may finally see justice!"
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/6/6/235939/1660 that Marianna Islands scandal the young women coerced into prostitution and forced to have abortions etc. When will enough be enough?
It all seems to realte....

1. I missed this...
House Democrats led by Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.) introduced legislation today to extend key federal controls over a U.S. territory in the western Pacific, renewing an effort that was blocked for years by lobbyist Jack Abramoff and once-powerful Texas Republican Tom DeLay.
charged that DeLay, the former House majority leader, and Abramoff, a conservative Republican who became one of Washington's top lobbyists, "ignored well-documented threats to American security, criminal activity, violations of labor law, forced abortions and human trafficking" in the Northern Marianas.
... thousands of women garment workers who were brought in from countries such as China and the Philippines have become stranded on Saipan without jobs, and some are being forced to work in brothels....along with women from Russia and other countries who were promised jobs in restaurants at U.S. wages only to end up forced into prostitution...federal controls were defeated by Abramoff and his allies....
