Casually mentioned on NPR Tuesday: Arctic Ocean may be ice-free in summer
Edited on Thu Jun-22-06 08:36 AM by Richardo
...within 50 years or so. Has had record 'ice minimums' for the past 5 years with no 'renewal' winters where the ice cover increases back to normal.

Story here (from All Things Considered): http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5498885

2. I think the guy also said it could take up to 50 years as well
I heard the story too. Alarming number nonetheless

4. Oh well Russia will get the ice free ports they always desired.
Believe it or not there are actually people who want to see this happen. It would clear out those pesky Blue States in the north east. This is just another Halliburton moment. I posted this on DU a couple years ago and got absolutely no response.

7. Thank you I got a response.
There are people who actually want a thaw of the polar regions, a few hurricanes here and there are also an opportunity to make a profit.

5. Both global warming and peak oil are regularly mentioned casually
on such networks as Discovery and National Geographic.
It's interesting those issues are well established facts in the public mind, while being mostly ignored in mainstream politics.

8. Humans will adapt, just watch.
It will kill off millions, maybe billions in the long run. Global warming and the inability to switch to progressive energy sources will force humans to change rapidly, but we will adapt. I'm personally rooting for the planet!
