The right wingers are voting in droves to drown out the voice of cartoonist Mike Luckovich:

2. The same wingers come out every day
to complain about Luckovich in the AJC. It always makes me laugh, because they're the ones who think that we have nothing better to do. I find them entertaining in a "boy, it sucks to be you" kind of way.

14. OK, Monday-Friday.
The AJC is my hometown paper (although I'm 4000+ miles away) and I tend to drop into the op-ed section, because it's the most interesting part of the online edition. I discovered the Luckovich forum several months back - I read, but don't post there - and I gradually noticed the same people popping up day after day after day spouting the same RW talking points. It particularly amuses me to see them still throwing around the word "pinko".

3. done, but the question being offered is inappropriate...
Political cartoons, when effective, are provocative and often disturbing. Thus, to say we "like" it is sort of hard. Do I approve of his work? Absolutely and I did vote to say I "liked" it, but my kneejerk response would have been to vote NO. I wonder if there aren't many less politically defined AJC readers, who likewise voted "NO" because the content is disturbing.

I think posting supportive comments may be better in this case.

7. I agree.

My first reaction was also to vote "No" but I did vote "Yes" after some pause. I truly don't care for cartoons of that ilk. I had already been thinking about the subject and feared our people would be tortured as payback for our torture tactics, so that type of cartoon was unnecessary and disturbing to me.

Edited tense.

8. I did both
citing the outrage of conventional thinkers as proof of an effective cartoon.

I also got in a dig about how long we all powerful liberals have been shut out of power and it might be time for conservatives to own up to their own messes.

12 responses - now it's up to 72...and Finally a voice of reason:

"Andy, andy, andy.

Can you SEE the forest for the trees? Are you so blinded by your devotion to your party that you cannot recognize the hypocrisy of Americans torturing anyone, anywhere, at anytime a complete contradiction and negation of what a TRUE AMERICAN should stand for?

I believe I read “LIFE, LIBERTY, & THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS” somewhere… Should that only apply to an AMERICAN or should we be a shining example of righteousness???

THE POINT is “do as I SAY not as I DO”

Mike’s not trying to crap on the soldiers. He’s saying Americans should be held to the same standards we are attempting to ESTABLISH, not creating havoc by doing the EXACT contrary and creating a scenario where ONCE AGAIN all we SAY is “we are trying to create democracy in the Middle East” and then torturing a person… who MAY BE a terrorist, who MAY BE a member of al queda, but in DOING the act, in BECOMING the equivalent of a terrorist, by torturing and spreading more hate and violence, WHO BECOMES THE MONSTER?

Think you conservative, conformist sycophants! Utilize that space between your ears!

If we become the same as al queda to “right the wrongs unleashed upon us” (see: 9/11) then what have we become? Certainly not a warrior who defends freedom, liberty, free expression… and certainly not the pursuit of happiness. We have become no different than them if that happens. One CANNOT become the equivalent to the enemy by exploiting the same tactics and campaigns that only serve to spawn fear and distrust.

And don’t come back with “I see. Everyone should be HAPPY in ‘lib world’ “

NOT what I said. I said NO ONE SHOULD LIVE IN FEAR.'

10. Dumbass poll
No, I did not like the cartoon. Yes, I found it thought provoking and a very sad reflection on the events that have devolved out of our occupation in Iraq.

Freakin' black and white thinkers on the right. Oh, and read the posts. :puke:
