Thank you Sens Feingold, Boxer and Kerry (et al) for standing up
This was a courageous stand to take. You all took a lot of heat, not just from the Republicans who are afraid to look reality in the face and change a course that is headed for disaster, but from Democrats who should know better and should have voted with you. This was an historic vote. The people know this occupation is wrong and that the US has to get out of that conflict. Thanks for not backing down and for taking the fight to the Rethugs. Don't give up and keep fighting.

Thank you all for standing up for what you know is right and not backing down on this! I will not forget.

1. And 3 months from now....
Edited on Thu Jun-22-06 12:22 PM by kentuck
When the Senate votes to withdraw some troops from Iraq, these same chickenshits will vote to agree to a withdrawal. I would not be a bit surprised. They don't seem to know what the hell they stand for or what they should stand for. They just stick their finger in the wind...

3. Still, this amendment got six votes last week
even though it was submitted as a sham. It picked up 7 votes in a week. That's not, ahm, nothing.

We are, painfully, haltingly, slowly and achingly making progress. That is, since time eternal, how it has been done. You have to start somewhere and then keep going, no matter what.

20. This is a beginning. A way for us to float the idea to the public and
gather feedback/gain support. This is "strategy" as well as necessity and Kerry and others were willing to go out on a limb.

Bravo to the Democrats for beginning the process of ending this war.

2. We have somehow got to regain at least one division of this government...
Repugs controlling both Houses, the exeutive and the judicial branch is killing this country, and way faster than I expected.

8. Great things are meant for Kerry.
He will come full circle. His courage re: Vietnam and address to the committee was his foundation... this is the rest of it.

I'm proud of him too. This is where he EXCELS.

6. Today, I'm embarrased to be a Democrat
Fucking rove and his "cut and run" bullshit. Now he's got dems shaking in their boots, worried that an "Aye" vote will be used against them come November. Gutless, chikenshit bastards voting against their hearts to get votes in November. Our kids are dying over there, dying for nothing. Even the Afghan President is telling us to take a fucking hike, and the duechebags I support show once again that they're a bunc of spineless bastards. There are a dozen Democrats who can hang with Feingold and Kerry, the rest are a bunch of career politicians more concerned about covering their asses than doing what their hearts know is right.

"Joementum" voted with the Repubs, as did a few other Dems. I think another one was Nelson of FLA, and Nelson of Nebraska

21. Thank you sent...
...to all 13. Also sent special thanks to Senators Kerry and Feingold for their leadership.

Here's the e-mail to the Thinking Thirteen:

Thank you, Senator, for voting with John Kerry, Russ Feingold, and the American people today. Although there will be little to no media coverage of what you did (and for sure, no positive coverage), many of us are watching. We want to have a successful outcome in Iraq and change the direction of our country so that we live up to the true ideals of our nation. We believe Senator Kerry knows how to do that and we support him 100 per cent! Thank you again, for standing with us.

30. The tactic was also brilliant. It forced Senate Republicans to
Edited on Fri Jun-23-06 06:53 AM by Seabiscuit
unite behind Bush's failed Iraq policy (if you can call "stay the course " a policy), despite their personal squeamishness on the issue, and this will come back to bite them in their arses in the upcoming elections when many of them have to face a majority of angry voters who are fed up with this disastrous war.

"But Senator, you voted against any plan to end this war, and in favor of Bush's determination to remain in Iraq indefinitely. Why should we now believe you are sincere when you criticize the policy you voted for?"

31. I think to prolong the occupation up to one more year is terrible
it is better than 10 or 20 or 100 years the others may have in store for the US.

The 86 Senators who opposed this timid proposal can all go to hell. without a handbasket.

Edited on Fri Jun-23-06 10:55 AM by EVDebs
And even the R's know it. Note how they keep putting off the 'permanent bases' issues along with info on actual spending, continually using 'emergency appropriations' measures to cover up the true costs...it is ALL going to catch up with them. Sooner rather than later. The kids are waking up and so are the old folks.

The next election will force the issue as not before. Kerry Feingold and Boxer et al, thank you and keep trying.
