Today 7/22/06
The Us Mint is now offering, for the first time,a 24K pure gold $50.00 American Indian Gold Coin for $800.00. Only 300,000 will be minted and then that's that. Should be quite a collector's piece. However, I've been on the US Mint.gov website since 11 AM CDT (sales started at noon EDT) and can't get thru to place an order. The lines at the Mint to place a phone order are also down. Anyone else having trouble getting thru? By tomorrow, the big time dealers will have it all sewn up, as usual.

2. Today is 6/22/06
Could that be why you're having a problem? Maybe they're not on sale yet.

6. Let me see if I got this right
800 for a 50 gold piece. And what do you do if gold crashes to 240 again like it has done in the past? Even if it is an once it looks like a loser, unless you are a serious collector.

7. I don't know poo about coin collecting, so someone explain to me...
...how a $50.00 coin can sell for $800.00 directly from the U.S. Mint?

What am I missing here?

10. Linited Issues are Collector's items
The actual monetary value really doesn't matter. Neither does the price of gold on the spot market at that time. This is a collector's issue....and meant to appreciate over the long run....something to leave for your kids later on. This coin is the FIRST EVER 24K pure
gold coin issued by the United States. Only the Canadian Maple Leaf has
the same gold content. With a limited release of 300,000, this coin
will already have a value in excess of the purchase price the very minute the last one is sold. My gripe here is that the US Mint is already so swamped with orders from professional dealers that little
guys (buying just one to leave to my heirs) can't get thru!!!!
I finally got on to the Mint's website and got my order for one in, and
it's already gone to BACKORDER, which means the dealers got the really valueable ones....those offered for sale the first day! Big business
screws us on virtually everything, I suppose!!!!
