Run Jethro ! The Massachusetts Librul is Back !!!
Edited on Thu Jun-22-06 04:26 PM by Ragazz68
Ah yes, another election year is upon us and once again it's time for the Massachusetts Librul. That mythical evil doer intent on the destruction of all things American. Like Godzilla, emerging from the waters of Boston Harbor, it will be featured in every Republican stump speech from Miami to Seattle this summer, and uttered by every Republican candidate guest on selected talk shows(between futile attempts of extracting Norah or Tweety's head from their asses... of course). What I always wanted to ask one of these Asshats who employ the Mass. Librul "method" is;

Specifically, which Massachusetts Liberals are you referring to? The ones who ventured out in the late 1700's and died trying to kill the occupying Brits ?

Or....

The imaginary ones in Jethro's head who are trying to steal his pick-up truck and turn his children gay ???

I think we know which ones.
When you fight ignorance, you have a nightmare for an enemy.

........ Peace,

Rags

2. Worth a kick.
Also worth noting that JFK, a Massachusetts liberal, put enough funding into the space program for us to beat Russia to the moon.

3. I'll kick this.
It irritates me to no end to hear Southern-fried assholes (and, worse yet, FAKE southern-fried assholes) acting as if the Northeast were a furrin' country.

The reason the Republicans have a lock on the South is that attitude.

The Republicans aren't winning the South because of racism or sexism or this ism or that ism... (ism, ism, ism... all we are saaaayyying.... ahem... I digress). It's because the North has for YEARS looked down their noses at the South and the Republicans have been successful in making the majority of Southerners (and mid-Westerners) believe that all Northerners and West-Coasters are Democrats of the far-left persuasion. Then these "Heartlanders" made the fairly logical leap that all of them Yankees are Democrats and THEY are the one's making snide remarks. You know those remarks. Those of the "sister-marrying," "no-shoe-wearing" variety. Therefore, they vote for the party who ISN'T of the Liberal Northern Democratic persuasion.

And that, my friends, is the TRUE Southern strategy: make them believe that Republicans CARE about their culture.

8. Everybody's blood spilled on 9/11
Edited on Thu Jun-22-06 09:17 PM by Clark2008
There was Southerners, Northerners, Mid-Westerners, West-Coaster, Foreigners, everyone from every walk of life in both the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon.

It may have happened on "Yankee" soil, but it still hit everyone's nerve. That has nothing to do with it.

It's a mind-set down here that's been re-inforced by the Reich-wing media that dominates our televisions and radios. For example, I've NEVER heard Sam Seder or Al Franken or Mike Malloy on the radio. Never. I can't stream it at work (our broadband is reserved for students - it's a computer learning center) and it's not on any area radio stations. I don't have the money for a satellite radio, much like most of my fellow Southerners. Most people down here have never heard of any of those people, but they can tell you who Rush, Hannity and Michael Savage are in a heartbeat. The closest thing we get to "liberal" radio is the Lionel Show - and he's more of an equal-opportunity basher.

P.S. I also want to mention that my husband is from Massachusetts and Maryland; therefore, this Southern Belle is in mad love with a Massachusetts Liberal

9. You are right. The victims were from everywhere.
It's hard to believe that the Liberal message has been successfully drowned out in certain parts of this country. The same can be said for parts of Maine and New Hampshire, as well as the rural areas of Connecticut.
This was an effectively executed plan to control the message. Carried out in the course of the last 20 years and funded by the corporate criminals who have only begun their war on the working class.

Sorry if I came off as a Southern basher....but my blood boils when I hear that phrase Mass. Liberal...and more recently it has come from Republican politicians from the south.....peace rags

10. Realize you weren't replying directly to me, but...
I hear this defensiveness amongst Southerners in my midst (I live in the South) rather often, and I think I'm as culturally sensitive as the next guy. I certainly don't think it's a real good idea for Democrats and progressive activists in general to purposely alienate people who were born/bred down here by using cheap stereotyping.

But I do think it's perfectly acceptable to point out that stereotyping Northeasterners has become, well, perfectly acceptable by the GOPee. I'm really, really sick of it. I have family in Massachusetts; they're no less patriotic and decent than my family living in former CSA states.

And yet we continue to hear crap like "Massachusetts liberal" used as an epithet in a way that "Georgia Conservative" would NEVER be used by a prominent Democrat.

That's all I was saying, albeit in a not very diplomatic way.

5. Brought up Bay Stater. . . A Massachusetts Liberal, I remain.
Earliest memories as a Brownie, marching on April 19th to the green in the early, cut grass morning.
I'll always consider myself one of that mythical breed.
