I don't mean run-of-the-mill mediocrities like Quayle...or cheap crooks like Nixon or the Teapot Dome crew...or genuinely evil figures like J Edgar Hoover or McCarthy...just a plain, garden variety dick. Maybe someone like Senator Bilbo, the old segregationist...but I can't think of anyone else who rises(?) to Rick's level...

PLUS, he's a dick.

The most disgusting POS is Pat Roberts - he's devious AND a dick, too.

7. There are quite a few just as bad as Rickey!
It's just that Rickey is getting headlines becasue he is up for reelection.

I really think Rickey found his following as a replacement to Sen. John Heinz after he died in that tragic accident. Almost everyone loved John, and Rickey sorta looks like him. I think lots of Pennsylvanians transferred their admiration of John to Rickey. NOW they're seeing what they really have in this idiot, and they don't like it!

I'll be partying the night Casey beats his a**!!!!

10. He won because the
moron dem establishment in my state, pardon me: Commonwealth - that means you can't buy beer in a deli by the case, and other Blue Laws from Quaker/Puritan Days of Yore - just rolled over and played dead - Harris Wofford was a decent fellow who just didn't try to campaign and lost to this ... whatever he is.

13. I'm very familiar with your State! I was born there, and lived there
for 45 years! I moved before Rickey came on the scene.

I'm also very familiar wiwth the stupid beer by the case laws and that you can't buy it in the grocery stores at all! Those folks who own the beer distributors must really have some power in Harrisburg! Heck, I lived in SC for a while, and even THERE they sold beer in the grocery stores! Some things about Pa. are very very old fashioned.

16. Well, in NJ you can't buy beer in a grocery store either. I was
born and raised in Pa., the dumbest damn thing is that you have to go to a beer distributor for beer and a liquor store for all else. I can't even begin to understand the rationale that went into that decision.

19. Minnesota has no liquor in grocery stores either. It's archaic.
The liquor lobby just loves to keep that law on the books.

20. I don't know anything about why the decision was made, but I know
when I lived in Pa. the beer distributors were always pitching a big fit every time the subject came up in the legislature to change the laws. They said it would put the out of business! Of course that's not true! Here in Ga. it's a mixed bag. There are some cities, and countys here where they do not sell alcohol at all! The others, you can buy beer and wine under a certain alcohol content in the grocery and quick stop stores, and all booze and higher content wines are only sold in spirit shops".

The spirit shops also sell beer, and the ones I go to have a much larger variety than any grocery store could ever think of having. Both businesses survive quite well in the marketplace together.

The laws were pretty much the same in every state I've lived in...TX, SC, SC, and Ga. The only oddball of course was PA!

same in NJ, but I just assumed it was so I'm not even sure.

28. William Scott, one-term repuke senator from Va.
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/060222/22mashekblog.htm?track=rss

Back in the mid-1970s, Sen. William Scott, a Virginia Republican, called a press conference to deny a magazine charge that he was the dumbest member of the Senate.

Of course, calling the press conference was a really dumb idea, since it only brought attention to an otherwise obscure story. Scott was ridiculed–something all politicians dread.

Can't find any links, but a piece in the fabulous People's Almanac tells of Scott's fact-finding trip to the Middle East, where he refused to enter a mosque on the grounds that it "wasn't a Christian building". :dunce:
