Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth" See it!
Is just saw the movie. I'm not easily impressed, somewhat cynical about the state of the world, feeling that politics is a hopeless endeavor. My spouse did not want to see the film as she feared it would be depressing. In all the gloom and doom scenarios, I found it hopeful. Al Gore is a natural teacher. His easy manner in explaining fairly complex scientic data was really good. The graphics were superb. His message, if anything, was calm and even understated but emphatic. We are running out of time to save this our home planet - earth. I even got a little teary-eyed about what is important and how I am to dedicate my time to make a difference, to leave for my children and all present and future children a world in which they can learn and trive. There is no alternative!

In his interviews Al Gore to promote the film he appropriately deflects the stupid opening questions "Are you running again in 2008?" and instead says that this is a call to action that is not about politics, nor a partisan issue. I don't know if he will run, I would not mind if he did and honestly would likely vote for him again. I think he is not perfect, but I do think he is a decent man and he more than any other political leader today knows more about one of the most important issues facing the people of the earth than any other leader. I think he could secure wider support and agreement for the kind of international collaboration that will be needed to turn this around, to begin to arrest global warming.

Certainly, it is a huge task that no one person or nation can alone make the difference. It will take convincing many, many people and corporations that it is their interests to join in, and not fight, efforts to change the course we are now on. That course is self annihilation, nothing less. We our fowling our own nest to the point of extinguishing all life on this little blue globe spinning our here on the edge of the vast universe with its delicate thin layer of life supporting atmosphere.

We are all made of the same cosmic material as is all life as we know it. That fact makes us eternally connected. As all the prophets and mytics have been trying to tell us for ions, we really are one with each other. True, whether we acknowledge or accept that fundamental reality. We just don't live as if we remember it.

I hope everyone will see that film and take the simple steps in our personal lives to make a difference. First: Do No Harm! Then significantly reduce the CO2 we personally put into the atmosphere.
Peace
