Cafferty says Senate has SIXTY SIX votes for flag burning amendment.
Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 06:36 PM by Gabi Hayes
his question for the hour:

''what's more important than the senate passing a flag burning amendment?''

ONE vote short of passing?

unbelievable

EDIT: anybody have a list of the Dems that are voting for this preposterous cancellation of the first amendment?

BTW, if the RW has its way, this will make effective the repeal of TWO of the five (make that THREE, with the first amendment zones) sections of the First Amendment, the other being freedom of the press (not statutorily, but with their attack on any media that dare report on government misconduct)

25. No
The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but
shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.

19. Because she fools so many people.
She's an enemy of this country, yet halfwit Dems want her to run for president -- based on nothing other than the fact that she's a woman who was married to a successful president.

4. Was he serious with that question? Even the Conservatives I know
are sick of these "get the base back" moves that mean nothing in the long run and certainly do nothing to improve our lives. How about doing something we give a shit about, guys? Almost anything is more important you assclowns!

7. well....the nazis in the senate and at 1600 do this every two years, don't
they?

they still think it works, cause they're taking up a lot of time this week to trumpet it.

they FOCUS group everything like this, and polls will say that most Americans are dumbasses when it comes to the bill of rights, so they'll KEEP doing this til it becomes part of the constitution

this makes me almost as sick as their attack on the NYT for the SWIFTbank story

6. "Saving" the flag while the Constitution is shredded.
The oath of office for Senators says nothing about protecting the flag. It DOES however, mention something about defending the Constitution. Maybe they should focus on THAT.

Oath of Office
for Congressmen, Senators and the President of the United States as set forth in the US Constitution

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

The Exact Same Luck.

86 years since its original submission, various stages of progress, once close call, and after all this time it's still not ratified, but DIC(Dead in Committee).

They should all be ASHAMED of themselves; with all the urgent business of the country unattended, they waste time on this nonsense.

BREEZE through for ratification, cause the local reps are even MORE craven!

17. Sadly, you are correct.
Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 07:19 PM by acmejack
It is a certainty it will be ratified if it makes it out of the Senate. I never thought this would happen in my lifetime, we regress at a incredible rate matched only by the retreat of the Glaciers.

edit, didn't see the call out for a link: here:

All 50 states have approved non-binding resolutions endorsing an amendment. "That is unprecedented and shouldn't be ignored," American Legion legislative director Steve Robertson says. "We will see if the senators are listening to their constituents or not."

24. 50 non-binding resolutions? horrifying. Yet still there is hope.
Edited on Tue Jun-27-06 08:30 AM by mcscajun
Resolutions endorsing an amendment aren't the people of the US voting on one.

Slim hope these days, but still hope. Also, the "non-binding" part is somewhat encouraging. Plenty of room for legislatures to change their minds.

15. I have a feeling the rightwingers don't actually want this to pass
They just wanna whine about it. It's why Hillary came up with that flag burning act, which basically said you can't burn a flag in protest on FEDERAL property. Her goal was to AVOID this shit.

I'll bet they are watching the vote closely, and they'll probably game it so that it comes in ONE VOTE shy...that way, the GOP can claim they are wrapping themselves in the American flag, but they were thwarted by liberals, and others who aren't up for reelection this year.

They better watch their shit, because what goes around, comes around, and a Democratic Senate might take on weightier, more pressing matters--the vote under a Democratic Congress could be to make marriage a FEDERAL RIGHT for all Americans, regardless of orientation!

...if this actually passes, then they won't have it to bring out of the closet and trumpet about next time they need to whip up a show of 'patriotism'. :eyes:

Didn't we just go through this last year? I remember firing off a couple emails to my senators on this asking them if they didn't have any REAL work to be getting on with...:grr:

favor, especially abortion, the pledge, gay marriage

what will they have to run on if all these things are getting settled?

really

great point

they don't HAVE anything other than FEAR to run on
