Interesting photo- Marine and an Iraqi boy

U.S. Marine Lt. John Warren of Greenville, S.C., sits next to an Iraqi boy in a house in Ramadi, 115 kilometers (70 miles) west of Baghdad, Iraq, Monday, June 26, 2006. U.S. troops have begun setting up new outposts and pushing patrols deeper into parts of this insurgent stronghold that previously went largely unpatrolled. (AP Photo/Jacob Silberberg)

1. What an adorable little boy. Why is Lt. Warren armed with an AK47
in someone's house? Why the cam?

2. I'm guessing it's a M16.
If not M16, something similar. Not AK anything, I don't think.

Service rifle; camera's standard. You don't check them at the door, and they probably wouldn't feel comfortable turning the rifle over to the people living there.

"We're friends" tends to be a very ambiguous statement when the person uttering it is facing greater firepower.

4. That's an M16
AK's are slightly larger and can be identified by their distinct "banana"-shaped magazine.

the camera on his helmet is either flipped-up night vision, or one of those cameras you use to peek around corners and record what you see (they deployed those after I got out so I don't know what they look like).

He's armed because whenever you travel in Iraq, you run the risk of someone trying to kill you, so you try to be equipped to kill them first.

8. Now that you have told us that, are you going to have to kill us? Sorry, I
couldn't resist saying that because of your DU name. Please forgive me?

9. LOL
I have used that line on occasion.

A couple of my other favorites are:

"We have ways to make you talk."

and if that doesn't work:

"Meet my friend, Ready Kilowatt."

5. I think the little boy is saying to the soldier
You couldn't pay me one million US Dollars to wear
that hat.

7. I'm guessing that Iraqi Constitution doesn't have a Bill of Rights
Amendment III

No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

12. Well, we've been doing that in places like Ramadi and Fallujah constantly
I guess the British Army did that regularly to the homes of Americans over two centuries ago.
