UPDATE
Flag-Burning Amendment Fails in Senate

By CARL HULSE and JOHN HOLUSHA
Published: June 27, 2006
WASHINGTON, June 27 — The Senate today fell one vote short of approving a constitutional amendment that would have enabled Congress to ban desecration of the American flag.

Senator Bill Frist spoke today on Capitol Hill about the Republican stance on the constitutional amendment banning flag burning. The proposed amendment was sponsored by Senator Orrin Hatch, right.
The vote was 66 to 34. To pass, the measure needed 67 votes.

1. Uh, I think it was a flag desicration amendment
Though I think the Constitution has been desicrated by this crew-we need to follow the Constitution and impeach those we can, and kick out those we can't.

3. I'M GLAD! I'm surprised that the Pubs let it come to a vote without
knowing it would pass! Was that just a Tom DeLay tactic that Frist also followed?

4. passing it wasn't the point
It was entirely political. In fact, passing it was probably the last thing they wanted, since it would mean that they couldn't bring it up again next year and the one after that etc.

8. Of course it was political, but EVERYTHING in the Hosue and the Senate is
political! Its simply NOT a big problem, so what did they hope to gain? The same idiots who strongly supported it in the past still do, and the rest of the Country doesn't!

I agree with Dobbs. I find burning the flag in anger, or even son of the clothes made to look like a flag to be offensive, but I sure don't 3waant to ammend the Constitution to eliminate it!!!!!!!

15. They absolutely will, along with other non-issue votes they plan
to hold between now and the Fall:

House Republicans intend to hold votes this summer and fall touching on abortion, guns, religion and other priority issues for social conservatives, part of an attempt to improve the party's prospects in the midterm elections.

The ''American Values Agenda'' also includes the gay marriage amendment, a prohibition on human cloning and possibly votes on several popular tax cuts.

13. "God bless AMERICA!, land that I love, Stand beside her..."
Come on America! Bush and Rove failed AGAIN, there is hope.
Sing along with me:
God bless America, LAND THAT I LOVE
Stand beside her and guide her
through the night with the light
from above.

from the mountains
to the prairies
to the Ocean
White with foam

God bless America
My home sweet home!

Excuse me,
i have to go burn a flag made in Communist China that is the symbol of freedom (of speech for one.)
