6. Snarky
'criticizing someone in an annoyed way and trying to hurt their feelings:
There was some idiot at the back of the hall making snarky comments.'

So it would depend on if the two elitist, crypto-liberals are purposefully trying to annoy Mr. Bow-tie or if they are being sardonic out loud (to much chardonnay).

states, not just a minority of the states.

Wyoming with less than 500 thousand people has the same number of senators as California with over 35 million. In fact the smallest 25 states have about 16% of the population but their senators could control the senate if they agreed to work together. That's state's rights at its purest.

do you have the SLIGHTEST idea WHY each state has two senators? if not, then perhaps you ought to acquaint yourself with the founders.

The cartoon is so true.

It's not "snarky". Snarky is like making funny, snide comments about someone's dress at the grammys.

This is a tongue in cheek illustration of how absurd the claim by some supposed "former liberals" that the democratic party has left them - supposedly because it has slid so far to the extreme left (?!?!?!).

26. can it be both? is it possible to see a bit of truth in there, and still
realize that it's a Colbertesque parody of the way neofascistos like to portray most dems, as lily livered, quiche eating elitists?

it works both ways for me, cause I happen to fall into a couple of those stereotypes....doesn't make it wrong to feel that way, does it?

28. Yes, I've been wondering about "snarky" too - such as what region
of the US uses it? I've only heard it used on the internet, but perhaps I'm exposed to other dialectal usages more on the internet.

37. Not well documented.
Dictionary.com has it as "irritable or short-tempered; irascible", but that's not how it's widely used these days.

It's mostly British, or used to be. http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=20010206

It's quickly shifted from meaning 'critical and snappish' to 'bitingly sarcastic' in the US. Both involve criticism. I'm not sure that the British word's shifted meaning in the same way.

"Curmudgeon" has done the same kind of thing. A person who snarled was a curmudgeon, but frequently it's not a good-natured sarcastic or sardonic quality, but a mean or caustic one.

35. It's absurdly snarky.
It might be snarking at a few different groups, though.

It might be snarky towards repubs; or to left dems.

Oddly, however, I know the guy in the bowtie. (Or at least somebody like him.)

He worked on the Clinton/Gore campaign when he was in high school; at 17 was walking precincts before election day to register dems, and on election day to get out the dem vote. I knew him when he was a sophomore in college, and he was dem, in the college democrats; he was increasingly unhappy and fighting with them as he became more self-assured in his role as a collegian. His junior year he was repub, and his senior year he was president of the college repubs. He supported Clinton/Gore, but not the Democratic Party.

He didn't change what he believed one bit. But the college dems were so much farther left than he was in high school that he just got tired of it; the college dems insisted on ideological purity, the college republicans didn't.

39. A joke right down to the "Chardonnay" cliche.
It's a take on the bullshit theory that Dems leave the party because of the picture right-Wing propagandists PAINT of the party.

Has anyone ever heard a caller on C-Span say "I used to be a Dem, and left because, blah blah, right wing talking point, blah, blah."?

Well, that's the guy in the bow-tie.

And no, I don't have a link, fer cry-eye.
