Extremist GOP Website Threatens Gun Violence Against McCaskill

Popular among GOP bigots and uber-conservatives, the online forum known as Free Republic is one of the web's largest repositories of online hate and mindless Republican boosterism. Discourse there regularly devolves into thinly veiled (or overt) race-baiting, gay-baiting, immigrant genocide fantasies and woman-bashing. It is a sewer populated by the worst kind of miscreants.

It is also, apparently, a site where threats of violence against Democratic elected officials like Missouri's Claire McCaskill are made and condoned.

In a forum thread on the site from May 12, a Free Republic user called 'Galactic Overlord-in-Chief' posted the numbers from a Rasmussen poll on the Missouri Senate race which showed Free Republic's favored candidate, Jim Talent, locked in a close battle with challenger Claire McCaskill.

The immediate response to the poll was a posting from another poster which began...

"Powder..Patch..Ball FIRE!"

more . . .

Talent Campaign Calls on McCaskill Campaign to Remove Threat From Website

Blog Entry Suggests Senator Talent be Shot

by Steve Walsh

The Talent for Senate Campaign is expressing its concern over what it views as a threat against Senator Jim Talent. It appears on the McCaskill for Missorui website - claireonline.com. The site allows visitors to enter their thoughts on a blog. One entry, posted June 9th, criticizes Talent and reads, in part: "I say, we need to respond with a little Dick Cheney justice, shoot him in the face, but don't kill 'em just marr that pretty boy face of his." Rich Chrismer with the Talent Campaign says U.S. Capitol Police have been alerted, as is standard operating procedure in cases in which threats or perceived threats have been made against U.S. Senators or Representatives. Chrismer doesn't know who, in the McCaskill Campaign, had knowledge of this entry. But he says the Campaign has allowed this to appear on the web site and he's calling for the immediate removal of the threat.

6. And you guys are surprised?
Get ready for this on a larger scale if the Democrats get the power back. The Freepers have just been itching for a reason to pull a Tim McVeigh and to start scoping out a nice watch tower to shoot from. They've gotten rabid in the last several years...

They're going to get worse.

9. Oh I am not surprised, not at all
I can still remember their anger at Clinton. I was surprised no one tried to kill him.

7. Missouri... One of the concealed weapon states.
The secret service needs to open and start their investigation.
