Treasonous Leaker-In-Chief Revealed
Treasonous Leaker-In-Chief Revealed

September 24, 2001

"We've established a foreign terrorist asset tracking center at the Department of the Treasury to identify and investigate the financial infrastructure of the international terrorist networks.

It will bring together representatives of the intelligence, law enforcement and financial regulatory agencies to accomplish two goals: to follow the money as a trail to the terrorists, to follow their money so we can find out where they are; and to freeze the money to disrupt their actions.

We're also working with the friends and allies throughout the world to share information. We're working closely with the United Nations, the EU and through the G-7/G-8 structure to limit the ability of terrorist organizations to take advantage of the international financial systems. "

This was the first thing that came to mind when this whole thing broke. Did Bush really think that the terrorists didn't know their money was being watched?

What a bunch of dumbasses. Someone take a screenshot of that page before it goes away!

So, what's the point in going after a newspaper that is only reporting what the WH already reported, one wonders... ?

20. Well, first there was Dan Rather
ALERT: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat:

Bear with me a second...

If you recall the history of Dan Rather and Bush, first there was with his Dad then there was the interview with Saddam just prior to the Iraq invasion. You know, the one where Saddam said that he had no WMD. The one where he said bring in the inspectors. Then, there was the set-up and Rather's fate was sealed.

So, on to the New York Times. First, there was the FISA snub/NSA story that they held for an entire year at the request of Bushetal. The reporter took leave of absence to write a book about it. NYT still held the story till AFTER the election and certification of the vote. Then there was Judy Miller...key at getting dis-information stories published by the NYT. Of course, now she's gone, Scooter's up on charges, and Rove's ...well, Rove's fate is still unresolved. Just imagine if the NYT still had Judy there! Not to mention that it was the NYT that published Joe Wilson's infamous "What I Didn't Find in Africa".

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

8. Terror money does not travel, by and large
through the conventional banking systems.
It traditionally works its way through things like the honey trade, and the personal lending systems of the culture.

this is not about terror, it's about George putting his filthy hand in your wallet.

28. Correct, the system is known as Hawala...
it's been around for years and able to move massive amounts of money around rather covertly.

From Wikipedia:

Hawala (also known as hundi) is an informal value transfer system used primarily in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Its origins are not entirely clear, but it is believed to have been used first in the financing of long-distance trade in the early medieval period on trading routes such as the Silk Road, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean. Hawala is mentioned in texts of Islamic jurisprudence as early as the 8th century. In South Asia, it appears to have developed into a fully-fledged money market instrument, which was only gradually replaced by the instruments of the formal banking system in the first half of the 20th century. Today hawala is probably used mostly for migrant workers' remittances to their countries of origin.

In the most basic variant of the hawala system, money is transferred via a network of hawala brokers, or hawaladars. A customer approaches a hawala broker in one city and gives a sum of money to be transferred to a recipient in another, usually foreign, city. The hawala broker calls another hawala broker in the recipient's city, gives disposition instructions of the funds (usually minus a small commission), and promises to settle the debt at a later date.

The unique feature of the system is that no promissory instruments are exchanged between the hawala brokers; the transaction takes place entirely on the honor system. As the system does not depend on the legal enforceability of claims, it can operate even in the absence of a legal and juridical environment. No records are produced of individual transactions; only a running tally of the amount owed one broker by the other is kept. Settlements of debts between hawala brokers can take a variety of forms, and need not take the form of direct cash transactions.

In addition to commissions, hawala brokers often earn their profits through bypassing official exchange rates. Generally the funds enter the system in the source country's currency and leave the system in the recipient country's currency. As settlements often take place without any foreign exchange transactions, they can be made at (black) market rates rather than official rates.

13. People keep falling for this bizarre spin over and over
When I saw the pRes lash out on TV last Tuesday, I had to scratch my head. I already knew about this program since shortly after 9/11 so why wouldn't the terrorists know, too? What gets me is why the media hammers on whether the NY Times is treasonous as an angle when anyone who has been paying attention knows that none of this is new information.

I can see that the outburst was because the 7 Muslim Terra-ists in Miami didn't fly. They had to have SOME issue to divert the press after that non-starter died in the gate. I agree, he doesn't care and even if he did he couldn't stop now.

23. DOT has FOUR tracking Al Qaeda -- TWENTY-ONE tracking CUBA!!!
At the end of 2003, the office had just four full-time workers assigned to tracking the money of Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden. It had 21 agents trying to enforce the Cuba embargo.

34. They are playing to the base.
They want to discredit the paper to the Kool Aide drinkers. That way, the base won't be tempted to pick up a paper and learn the truth.

Remember how the whole Killian Memo story fell apart just because someone challenged the type font on the document? Maybe the document was real or maybe it wasn't but what about the rest of the story?

The Rovian game is ATtack, Attack, attack. Be picky about one minor detail and the major details will take care of themselves.
