Tweety was just starting to sound reasonable on Colbert.
Then he had to wonder about the Democratic takeover of the House being a good thing. What a dick.

Did you work in a political area, or were your bosses just republicans?
I work for an ad agency with some very Red clients. It's just a paycheck.

33. I agree; Tip O'Neil felt that he really didn't have to oppose Reagan
that everything Reagan did and what would result from Reagan's Administration would somehow automatically "turnoff" the American people

He didn't oppose Reagan vigorously enough

because he couldn't get any GOPer to come on -- they blackballed him until he started playing softball with them. I watched it happen, daily, heard him refer to the fact that he couldn't get them to come on. He sold out to save his show.

Thanks for the reply. I was interested in its origins because it seems like a self congratulatory call out of other progressive that weren't able to make it to camp casey.

My immediate reaction to it was.."working my ass of 9-5. Thank you very much"

But, I wanted to know if it came from someone with ties to Cindy, who, from everything I've seen and read is much more inclusive and tolerant that the "I was there.. Where were you?" message of the image.

I have been WAY off base before, and might be this time that's why I wanted to check out where it came from to put my mind at ease.

No offense intended.

32. One of the greatest lessons from Camp Casey
is that we all have something we can do to work against this insane war. It is not a noble cause and our soldiers plus tens of thousands of Iraqis are dying. The message in my sig line is a call to all those who oppose the war to speak out, write LTTEs, join a local protest, write to their congress critters, work on a campaign to elect a candidate who will promote peace. In other words, do something to make your voice be heard and your presence felt.

We also have an obligation to support the soldiers who are halfway around the world because of this war. That is a huge part of the Camp Casey movement and a part that doesn't get enough attention, IMO.

I was so lucky to be able to go to Camp Casey and to become part of the peace movement there. I have tried to bring that message home. I realize that Texas in August is not possible for everyone who opposes this war. But you certainly don't need to make a trip to Texas and deal with 100+ temperatures to work against this war.

Unless we speak up and out, it will never end. That is the point of my sig line.

And if you support the war, enlist. :)

16. I don't want to stick up for Tweety all that much, but he has to suck up
to get these cruel, back-stabbing, dumb as rocks Republicans on his show because they are the party in control after all. I'm not saying he wouldn't do it on his own, but you could sure tell when Russert was on with Jon Stewart that he couldn't say what he wanted about Cheney because he wanted Cheney back on Meet the Press sometime.

I think I need some serious psychological help. Tweety has made me so angry I could spit, but I was so happy to see him laughing and joking with Colbert tonight. I know Tweety has said some strange (maybe his malaria drugs have affected his brain) type things about Bush, but I can not stop having these fond feelings for Tweety.

Let the hate come my way. I can't help myself here. It's a sickness guys. What can I say. I know someday he will do that one thing or maybe many things that finally stop me from liking that Irish grin of his. It's like knowing something is SO BAD for you, but you keep on doing it.

He knows it would be better for America if the Democrats took the House.

He was just making a statement of neutrality as a journalist.

31. No, I'm not saying that Chris Matthews is a neutral journalist.
I'm saying that during his appearance on "The Colbert Report" last night, that is what he was being.

Chris Matthews wasn't a neutral journalist when he promoted bogus stories about Al Gore in 2000. Chris Matthews wasn't a neutral journalist when he played the Dean Scream a million times in 2004.

34. And he wasn't "neutral"
When he was almost cheering John Kerry on the presidential election show they had on MSNBC the night of the election. He was talking about the exit polls, and saying how he believed the young people would turn out and vote heavily Kerry, and that was going to be the difference. I remember later on in the night, Scarborough basically said you can't count on young people to turn out, but you can count on the older evangelicals, and Matthews was sullen.

Just because of that, I'm not going to believe he's some secret Republican. Some of the other posters have posted reasons why he may be the way he is now, ie, he had to become this way to save his show, or to get the sorts of guests he needed to be successful. Who knows? All I know is that he has had a history of leaning towards Democrats, up until at least the 2004 election.

So maybe he has changed, maybe he was forced to change -- no one really knows. But he's definitely not some life-long Republican like some make him out to be.
