Attention, defenders of the American flag
This thread got me thinking, and here is the result: a small card targeting the (almost always right wing) "patriots" who repeatedly violate the federal Flag Code to show just how patriotic they are. Well, it's time we told them just how unpatriotic they are behaving.

This isn't ready for distribution quite yet; hopefully by this evening or tomorrow morning. I would value any suggestions people might have on text and layout. Thanks!

1. Is there a provision against defacing the flag by writing on it?
If so, Bush himself violates that one all the time with his patriotic Sharpie marker.

4. Yup: defacing the flag is a violation of the Flag Code
But it is not something one commonly sees, so it's not on the card.

7. Of course, you DO see it more often than you see flag burnings.
Just saying.

2. Great Idea. I like your Mark Wilson "flag" also.
Time to take back the Party, vote Mark Wilson.

6. What's the deal with decorating bridges with flags?
This practice seems obscene to me - is there a place in the code other than recommendations as to how it should be displayed that would indicate this is a violation?

There is a bridge where they decorate it with 20 or more flags and I think it should be dismantled (if not just for the reason that it's a public area, not for one individuals particular personal obcession). It would be nice if I could cite a violation as well.
