If the government is running secret operations that don't violate human Civil Liberties nor compromise the balance of power within the government, then fine, conduct the operations. Keeping that a secret is a matter of National Security. I agree.
However, if the government (or some rogue element within it) is running secret operations that are in violation of the U.S. Constitution, American Civil Liberties, The Bill of Rights, Geneva Conventions, or which upset the balance of power by eliminating vital "checks and balances" across the 3 branches of government, then said secret operations MUST BE EXPOSED to the public in order to preserve the National Security of the United States of America.
The United States Government is a government of the people, for the people, by the people. That's you and me. To keep such illegal operations a secret from us creates a rift between "We the People" and our Government. That is dangerous.
Illegal Secrets threaten our National Security, a kind of damage no terrorist could ever inflict.
One who argues otherwise is attempting (ignorantly or with purpose) to chisel away at the columns of justice and freedom that this great country is supported by. With "friends" like that, who needs enemies?
