Six days ago, Skinner posted this thread in the Draft Discussion Group:
This Group has been selected for possible deletion in 7 days. Please Read.
Earlier today we ran an analysis of posting traffic in each of the DU Groups. Those DU Groups that had fewer than one post per week (13 posts in the previous 90 days) have been selected for possible deletion. (Note: DU Groups for potential 2008 presidential candidates were exempted from deletion, because we expect they will become more active sometime in 2007.)
This Group was one of the DU Groups with fewer than 13 posts in 90 days, and has been selected for deletion. The Group will be deleted if there is not sufficient interest to keep it going.
If you want this Group to remain open, please post in this thread to let us know. The deadline for posting is midnight Thursday June 29. If at least ten people post in this thread to support the Group, it will remain open. Otherwise, it will be closed.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=269x70I am asking for nine more people to click on the link above and post a request to keep the Group open. I already did, even though I haven't there posted in over a year. Why do I think it's important to keep it open even though so few post there? I can sum it up in one word: Iran. I don't think I'm the only one here who has seen the parallels between the buildup to the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the current saber-rattling against Iran. The difference between then and now is that then we didn't have the majority of our troops bogged down in a quagmire. There is absolutely NO WAY to invade Iran without a draft. Sure we could start out with limited airstrikes, but I fear that's just a slippery slope toward a full invasion.
If such disaster did occur, and with the maniacs we have in office right now that's certainly possible, I want the Draft Discussion Group open here. Not just for myself, but for DUers of draft age who would be affected by it. I imagine traffic will continue to be slow during the summer, but when it gets closer to the 2006 election, expect a ratcheting up of the rhetoric against Iran by the neo-cons. By using the threat of war to rally their base, it increases the possibility of that being the actual "option on the table" that they use. Let's keep the Draft Discussion Group alive to confront that possibility.
