Sean Hannity: Superhero.
Edited on Wed Jun-28-06 05:58 PM by Marr
Ok, this you just have to see to believe. A comicbook about a modern Orwellian USA, run by an authoritarian regime of... liberals. Sean Hannity, G. Gordon Liddy, Oliver North, and other convicted criminals and professional liars form a sort of super team (yeah, I'm serious) to fight them.

http://www.accstudios.com/f/lfa3_page_covera.htm

There are something like 7 pages you can read there- I particularly love the panel with the kid running in terror and the headline, "Fox News Bankrupt" blowing through the foreground. High comedy.

Oh and don't miss CYBORG HANNITY and Liddy on his Liddycycle!:

I about died laughing at this thing.

5. At least Liddy served. Nice artwork, for a fascist.
I wish I could retire now and spend all my time fighting back. FReepers will like this, but where is the anti-evolution angle? You will have to find out for yourselves. I can't figure it out; I am just a simple unfrozen cave man lawyer.

8. Is that supposed to be Hannity? He looks more like Bud Abbott
This cartoon guy is unrecognizable as Hannity, unless of course they drew him with a winkie like a Ken doll. Then it might be more accurate.

Is the artist sincere? Or is it Colbert-style satire?

21. I have to say, thouugh, that I didn't find this funny.
Edited on Thu Jun-29-06 01:43 AM by Yollam
I looked at all the pages available online, and found it to be a bit disconcerting. Comics have long been used to influence the young and impressionable, and this is about as over-the-top propaganda as I've seen. It may seem funny to people like us, who live in cities with alternative media outlets, who see liberals as people, not as some faraway threat, but it would look different to a kid growing up in a right-wing household in some southern city with Bible crap all over the radio dial and a right-leaning newspaper. For him, Fox News might even seem to be relatively urbane, moderate and secular, compared to the local media.

And the themes and ideas it presents - AL Gore and Hillary Clinton as "far left extremists"? Of course the artist couldn't resist getting in several jabs about Ted Kennedy's drinking (alcoholism is funny!) Bin Laden as ambassador to the UN? Excuse me, but speaking as a far leftist, I can tell you that the far left is NOT any friendlier to Islamic fundies than it is to Christian fundies, thank you.

Alan Colmes as some sort of media overlord?

Michael Moore and Hillary Clinton as running mates? What kind of crack is this guy smoking? And what is it with this bizarre obsession some right wingers have with the UN? Where the HELL did they get this notion that liberals are hell-bent on signing US sovereignty over to the UN?

It's all ludicrous - to the point that it almost seems like parody, but I do think that stuff like this is dangerous because it could truly warp the minds of impressionable young people.

22. I'll tell you what I found interesting about it-
hate movements always have the sort of paranoid "oppressed minority" fantasy expressed in that comic. It was in Rwanda, Nazi Germany... they're fueled by this idea that they're under assault. It's what justifies their behavior.

That's why Hillary Clinton's "right wing conspiracy" comment hit them so hard, by the way. Though it was pretty obviously true, and Bill Clinton *was* the target of a concerted effort to tear him down, to rabid right-wingers like the one writing that comic, it was ludicrous. They believe that *they* are the tiny, oppressed minority- no matter how many branches of government they control. No matter what the facts suggest.
