ATTENTION CONGRESS: Why George W. Bush should be impeached
Edited on Thu Jun-29-06 11:30 AM by AndyA
It would appear that Congress is either unaware (or is possibly a co-conspirator) of the illegal activities of George W. Bush and The Bush Administration. Since we know members of Congress are busy debating important topics like gay marriage, flag burning, and allegations of treason by the media, I thought I’d post a few things for their attention to get the ball rolling. While Congress is foolishly wasting their time and our money on these silly things that no one really cares about, very real, and very serious, events are taking place, and they’re bypassing the checks and balances Congress is mandated to perform by the Constitution of The United States of America.

1. George Bush conspired with his brother, Jeb Bush, the Governor of Florida, Katherine Harris, the Secretary of State of Florida, and others in the Republican Party to have tens of thousands of minority (Democratic) voters removed from the voting rolls in Florida, ensuring their votes for Bush’s opponent would either not be cast, or not counted. While a full recount was underway in Florida, pressure was put on members of The Supreme Court who were appointed by Republicans, to intervene. This resulted in Bush being placed in office, in spite of losing the popular vote.

2. George Bush set the all-time record for the most vacation days during his first year in office, and by doing so ignored warnings that a terrorist attack on American soil was imminent, and allowing the horrors of September 11, 2001 to happen unabated. Due solely to George Bush’s irresponsible handling of his responsibilities to the Constitution and the American people, the worst attack on American soil ever was carried out.

3. George Bush has signed laws and Executive Orders that subvert the Constitution of the United States of America. He has used hundreds of signing statements, essentially giving himself the power of a Line Item Veto, without approval of Congress.

4. The Bush Administration is the most secretive in history, with no accountability whatsoever, despite multiple issues that should require a full investigation by Congress, including the outing of a CIA Agent (Valerie Plame) while undercover, a political move in retaliation for a report by her husband, Joe Wilson, that disputed information released by The White House to the public that was, in fact, incorrect, and raised the question of why we really went to war in Iraq. George Bush lied by omission when he stated "If there's a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is...If the person has violated law, that person will be taken care of...I welcome the investigation. I am absolutely confident the Justice Department will do a good job...I want to know the truth, leaks of classified information are bad things." Bush added that he did not know of "anybody in my administration who leaked classified information."

5. The Bush Administration wrote a new Energy Policy behind closed doors. This energy policy was written by the CEOs of the major oil companies in America, under the direction of Vice President Dick Cheney, who was the top man at Halliburton prior to becoming Vice President. This Energy Policy has resulted in the highest oil prices in history, and record high corporate profits for the oil companies. As a direct result of this policy, many American families are suffering and not able to pay their necessary living expenses.

6. George Bush lied to the American people by stating, "Any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires -- a wiretap requires a court order…" This statement was made on April 20, 2004 in Buffalo, New York.

7. George Bush spent the federal surplus in place when he took office on a war that was started with lies and misinformation, allowing no-bid contracts to be granted to his cronies, and essentially bankrupted the U.S. Treasury. Instead of doing the responsible thing, he further exacerbated the problem by forcing through tax cuts for his wealthy friends, giving them preferential treatment over other American citizens.

8. George Bush allowed American soldiers and contractors to torture Iraqi prisoners, doing nothing about it until photos of the crimes became public. The outrage over this treatment benefited the terrorists, as it motivated people to join the cause, which further hampered the efforts to restore peace in the Middle East, and became a detriment to the proper treatment of captured American prisoners.

9. George W. Bush ordered the attack and occupation of a sovereign nation that had done nothing to the United States, ignoring the United Nations and international law. Later, George Bush withdrew the United States from the World Court of Law to circumvent an investigation that might lead to accusations of war crimes.

10. George Bush has pushed through legislation that favors major corporations, most of whom were and are large campaign donors to the Republican Party. This is to the detriment of the well being of the people of the United States of America, since it has lowered standards for water quality, food content labeling, air pollution, and as a result has saved these corporate interests money by allowing them to harm the environment by removing protections and restrictions put in place for the public safety.

11. The Bush Administration’s Patriot Act is a threat to the Constitutional Rights and Civil Liberties of every American man, woman, and child. The Patriot Act allows law enforcement to conduct secret searches of homes and businesses, engage in various forms of surveillance, including wiretapping telephone calls, and monitoring internet communications and E-mails. The Patriot Act grants the FBI access to highly personal information, such as medical and financial records, without notification or permission, and allows them to investigate individuals without probable cause of a crime. It also permits non-citizens to be jailed based on mere suspicion and held indefinitely without meaningful judicial review.

12. George Bush has acted irresponsibly in protecting American citizens and the homeland in the face of terrorist threats by allowing borders to go unprotected, cargo to enter the country without adequate inspections, and by appointing cronies to positions of authority when they are not qualified for the job, which has caused death and destruction due to slow response time after natural disasters, and has placed first response personnel in danger by exposing them to toxins and other agents.

13. Our military has been ordered to wage an illegal war without the proper guidance and necessary equipment to protect themselves from harm. Further, no plan was in place to deal with the results of this war, and the eventual departure of American troops, resulting in the deaths of over 2,500 troops to date, and injuring tens of thousands of others.

14. Due solely to policies that encourage American employers to outsource American jobs, poverty levels in America have skyrocketed under Bush’s leadership, and household income has fallen. More Americans are living without health insurance, and personal bankruptcies and foreclosures are at all-time highs. The savings rate in America is zero, which means Americans have nothing to fall back on in an emergency. Corporate earnings during this time have grown, indicating The Bush Administration is willing to sacrifice American families for corporate profit. In spite of this, George Bush professes that the economy is good, and life is great in America.

My question to Congress is this: Why are you not living up to your responsibilities, your oath of office, and the Constitution of the United States of America which you swore to protect? Your action is not optional, it is MANDATORY. You do not have the right to decide whether or not to take action, you are required to do so.

So why aren’t you doing anything? Is the entire body of Congress complicit in these activities as well? The American people are tired of the second rate leadership we’ve suffered with in this country for the past 6 years, and we expect our elected officials to do what they are required to do.

4. So, who's going to tie them down?
And make them read it. Wonderful letter, but, apparently if they gave a shit you wouldn't need to write it. It's not like they haven't heard from us by the thousands. By now any ignorance of our situation is willful, and as far as I'm concerned they've cast their lots already in favor of supporting the trough at which they feed and not the interests of WTP.

6. Maybe so, but under pressure from the American people, a lot of changes
have been forced through, and it needs to happen again. Members of Congress need to know that we are holding THEM responsible for what is going on - personally - just as if they themselves were making the bad decisions. We're only expecting them to do the job they so desperately wanted. Now that they've got it, they need to get the show on the road!

8. Suggestion (otherwise known as a description of what I do)
I have all my national and state representatives on voice dial on my cell phone. When they do something that makes me mad enough (frequent) or there's something on the floor I want to express my opinion on (not that they'll ever vote the way I want them to), I whip out my little pay-as-you-go phone and call them.

Can't hurt--well, except to get me on Big Brother's list, which I'm sure I'm already on--and might occasionally help. I'm told they *do* pay attention, at least, if they get several calls in one day on the same topic from individual people.

5. Why?....because they are bought and paid for by corporations
As long as corporations are running the show, democratic principles take the back seat.
