She lies beneath the fig tree
Edited on Thu Jun-29-06 01:28 PM by Tom Yossarian Joad

She lies beneath the fig tree

and remembers the shops

and the vendors

and the talk

of things that are about to change

and remembers the fear.

Before her father lay bleeding beside her.

She remembers the quiet
the silence

at night

before these things

brought new silence.

She hears the vehicles
roll by

carrying death
and

foreigners

to change her world.

The old silence returns

and she gets up

to take her baby

water.

end

On edit:

this is more than I thought when I wrote it.

It has cost me (second edit) to see this on today's FP.

Thank you to the people that appreciated this last night.

I hope I didn't step in a minefield. I know nothing other then your poem is very powerful and needs to be disseminated far and wide.
