THE BEST way to fix E-voting problems. Scare the GOP and make them do it.
Right now, we are fighting an e-war with one hand, and four fingers tied behind our back, without a keyboard or a mouse. And the screen is off.

That leaves us scrapping, sweating and trying to get the attention of MSM and state legislatures and have them focus on this issue.

that is a stupid, pointless and reactionary tactic. There is a much easier way to accomplish a real fix to this problem and to make it work. We have our opponents do it for us.

(Wait, Anti! You are full of it. They are the ones CAUSING the problem! Are you smoking something illicit?)

Sadly, no.

The answer is simple - and moderators, please bear with me. I am NOT advocating any crime, any wrong-doing or any theft of votes. Those are federal crimes and I refuse to even consider the possibility of even a shadow of the thought from crossing my mind. However. (anti takes a deep breath):

We need to gather our best programming brains and and have them look at every style and version of e-voting machine and produce an easy to use "how to" guide on how to hack a voting machine. Then, we publish those instructions on EVERY SINGLE LIBERAL WEBSITE with instructions to contact their state and federal representative, send them those instructions with a letter begging them to fix these flaws, lest they want to risk their next election.

I do NOT and will NOT allow, permit, or even hint at to any liberal to even think privately about using those instructions for nefarious deeds, along the lines that Ohio GOP used them for. To the contrary, I advocate the vast, wide and constant dissemination of these instructions solely for the purpose of educating our elected officials as to the gravity of the problem. if they see that any 16 yr old with a high speed connection can futz with the data, they will possibly react. But, it gets better.

Those on the right are frequently called stupid, but many of them are not. They can see the writing on the wall. If we grab the attention of the right, the moderates and those who like the status quo, and if some of them even suspect that we are disseminating "how to" plans for hacking their beloved e-voting machines, they will scream for the same relief that we seek and have been seeking for a couple of years: A fix. A permanent record. A paper trail. A real election.

I honestly believe that publishing the how to guide and sending that info to our elected officials, asking them to fix the problem by creating real standards, will do more good, faster, easier and more effectively than our current screaming in small closets and banging our head against the wall.

I am very much open to a better plan, or complaints or criticisms about this plan. So, let me duck and read.

2. Great idea. I will do th is.

I forgot.

Kick and recommend. Truly, I think it's a great idea. Cast light upon the whole nasty business. Then they will all be scared. Because, gee, why not, there might be some terrible criminals on the left, or even in the middle, who might take things into their own hands.

I suppose it's possible, isn't it? I would never do such a thing, but there may indeed be people who would do such a thing. They must be stopped, mustn't they? Even republicans would want to stop them.

3. Now they are worried when Chavez might be behind the E-voting
machines, but when GOP diebold was in charge they thought it was great. Looked at drudge report the other day & actually saw some postings stating that if dems win its because they are rigging the machines??? They scare & frighten so easily - that your strategy may just work. Scare the repukes into fixing the e-voting crap.

5. I think the hacks should happen on NATIONAL TV. Didn't Volusia County, FL.
hire hackers in Sweden and after the hack said there was NO WAY they were using those machines? Put the hack on TV, at the end of the show have an 800 number where people can call for the "How to" booklet. Something must be done before the election.

Bev Harris showed Howard Dean how to hack an evoting machine when the person had the backdoor code. I think that happened on CNBC? Dean was hosting for Bobby Brown?

8. Maybe you should send your idea to Howard Dean? Or maybe a DUer
Edited on Thu Jun-29-06 07:04 PM by in_cog_ni_to
knows a big name TV personality who can get the hack on the air, But being on the Internets may scare them enough though. MORE people would see it if it were on TV though.:)

12. I agree 1000%
we have far better hackers, and the best way to get them to change this travesty is to play upon their darkest fears.

13. My ubber-rightwing representative wants a paper trail.
He's a complete homophobe, chicken-hawk, fundie bushbot. And, I think he's paranoid that we will steal the election. I'm not sure we want to be seen as potential lawbreakers (a lot of RWers already think we are). Somehow this info would have to be made public anonymously.

btw, my rep IS stupid.

14. We are not the law breakers. We are concerned citizens who want
them to be aware that these things could happen. We want them to fix the boxes so they will not be hacked.

16. The video of Dean being shown how to hack the vote is here:
About 1/2 way through the movie, Votergate:

You download more videos at Solarbus Election Justice site - you have to burn them onto a CD, but there are lots of good videos.

17. Advice from another Anti....

Where'd you learn to spell?! :kidding:

This sounds like a potentially revolutionary plan, but there's at least one problem with it. Evoting companies are largely owned by Republicans, in fact there has been an extremely religious, uber-wealthy, right-wing, fundamentalist behind a couple of the bigger ones. Part of the problem seems to involve insiders within these companies providing the means and the technical expertise to perform some the hacking capability when it suits their needs. The problem I see is that they could, if they choose to, make their systems appear to conform to security requirements and be somewhat hacker-resistant in those elections where it is in their best interests to do so. In other elections, maybe they would revert back to their corrupt methods.

Very recent reporting by RFK Jr. in Rolling Stone (see the Greatest list) may reveal some of these insiders and the stories they have to tell.

The best solution ultimately is to get rid of the corruption altogether.

19. heck, you stole my first choice, so I came in a lame second.
thanks for the Rolling stone stuff.

I agree with your description of the companies who are screwing our political system. the ability to turn on and off the hack-ability scares me to no end.
