His colleagues joined in with the Bush administration when they zeroed in on him, and heaped pile after pile of scorn on him.

Now they are "outraged" over Bush's smearing of the NY Times.

I think Rather knows it was either LIHOP or MIHOP. They couldn't take the chance that he might pull a NETWORK moment and spill the beans - "I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore - * did it".
