Do you think they're selling bad gas at the pumps?
I'm just wondering because the car is handling differently and it occurred to me that if our government remains consistent in the way it operates, it will probably allow the gasoline companies to "water down" the gasoline to stretch the reserves, without telling any of us, of course.

Has anybody noticed anything? I know Shell, or was it one of the other stations, was caught with a bad batch not too long ago. Wouldn't be surprised if they were experimenting and just went too far with that batch.

1. If your talking about the shit that broke gas gauges, I got a
$900.00 check from Shell for repairs to mine. For another $900.00 they could have bought the car.

3. I Used To Work At A Gas Station
Leaky storage tanks can allow water into the mix. You might try a different station next fill-up and see if you notice the same engine performance.

That's not saying you're not right about what you're saying. : )

4. I remember at my local
Exxon station, they had a brochure saying they were switching to an ethanol/gas blend.. In it it warned older cars(like 1980's made ) may not handle it well.I dunno maybe your car don't like ethanol?

5. I got a bad batch at a Clark station last week.
I've been letting my Porsche idle a few hours a day for the last week trying to burn up $60 in gas that it won't run on.

Talk about adding insult to injury...

9. It should be fine once I put some rubbing alcohol in the tank and top it
off with good gas.

It's just a pain to have to do...especially when I paid $3.19/gallon...

8. yes they are selling contaminated gas
Edited on Thu Jun-29-06 09:19 PM by pitohui
the shells were selling gas contaminated w. sulfur which ruined cars all over the south, causing big repair bills (around $600)

after katrina, some gas stations were apparently selling contaminated or watered-down gas, i had to get over $300 work done on my fuel system because of the bad gas

my husband's company bought some 55 drums of gas after katrina to keep the business running, they turned out to be contaminated and had to be filtered somehow

when something is expensive the temptation is always there to water down esp. if many buyers must travel a long way, as we did while under evacuation orders, putting us in no condition to even find again the gas station where the bad gas was sold, much less file a complaint or lawsuit against them

12. Enforcement (and fear of enforcement)
of product quality/labeling standards (consumer protections generally) seems to have fallen off. For example, none of the food-outlet stores that I shop at seem to have labeled-seconds anymore -- and some unmarked stuff (generally good brands) turns out to be of poor quality (eg, much too salty): hardly "firsts".

In terms of (many) foodstuffs, quality seems to be going downhill generally. It's another way of squeezing more money from the product: short portions; charge more; decrease the price of ingredients and processing; screw the worker.

Methinks I've also been cheat-metered on gas.

15. I Would Not Put ANYTHING Past
I would not put ANYTHING past the corporate scumbags.

First, I would think it altogether more than likely that corporations like Mobil/Exxon and British Petroleum/Amoco are adulterating the gasoline in order to get m ore profits with less oil.

And Second, does it occur to anyone else that corporations like GM and Ford have a vested interest in seeing that cars break down and fail? That way, they sell more cars.

So why wouldn't GM and Ford conspire with Exxon to have Exxon and BP sell gas that fucks up the motors of cars?

Like I said, I wouldn't put ANYTHING past the corporate mother-fuckers!

17. Planned obsolesence.
I got a call from my car dealer asking me if I was in the market for a new vehicle. I told him we would probably start looking for a car with better mileage in about a year. He got all giddy.

Yes, I think the auto manufacturers are rubbing their hands right now. GM will dump their pension commitments and turn around and come up with Tucker's solution.

I think we've all been had.
