We've had plenty of marches, crashing of managed events, and standing at gates, but where are the sit-ins. The people occupying the halls of government.

1. Trespassing:
Criminal Trespass

At common law a trespass was not criminal unless it was accomplished by violence or breached the peace. Some modern statutes make any unlawful entry onto another's property a crime. When the trespass involves violence or injury to a person or property, it is always considered criminal, and penalties may be increased for more serious or malicious acts. Criminal intent may have to be proved to convict under some statutes, but in some states trespass is a criminal offense regardless of the defendant's intent.

Some statutes consider a trespass criminal only if the defendant has an unlawful purpose in entering or remaining in the place where he has no right to be. The unlawful purpose may be an attempt to disrupt a government office, theft, or arson. Statutes in some states specify that a trespass is not criminal until after a warning, either spoken or by posted signs, has been given to the trespasser. Criminal trespass is punishable by fine or imprisonment or both.

In short, no one does it anymore because our Government has proven itself incredibly willing to lock up innocent citizens.

I would also point out that, if the Feds so chose, they could try and interpret it as terrorism and ship everyone off to Gitmo.

But then, I am incredibly pessimistic.

That's the difference between these days and those days. That and the draft.

I didn't care if I got arrested. Btw, I sat in several times and was never arrested. There were too many of us.

11. !
I can relate. If a cop demanded that I stand up I'd probably tell him to shut up and get me an Advil.

I have a bad back, poor eyesight and loss of hearing. I leave that kind of stuff for the younger generation now.

8. Moderates are too scared to use "radical" tactics.
We have to be respectable and "mainstream." Even some of the more moderate black civil rights leaders were never entirely comfortable with sit-ins until after they worked.
