For July 4th, "Celebrate your freedom to SHOP!"
I just heard a lady with a horrible, nasal, twangy, Texas accent say this in a local TV commercial announcing a July 4th sale.

Seriously. :eyes: ?!?!?!?!?!

6. I won't be shopping.
Everyone, not just those of us who are lucky enough to have "white collar" jobs, should have the day off. Labor Day REALLY pisses me off for this reason.

I also refuse to shop on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and, when I was living in the UK, Boxing Day.

4. I think this quote from THX 1138 is fitting:
"Let us be thankful we have commerce. Buy more. Buy more now. Buy more and be happy."

18. Actually, I did mean Coppola.
Don't get me wrong, I like George Lucas too, but Coppola has produced a few of my favorites...and THX 1138 is one of his first.

8. Someone in America is using a holiday to sell a product?
The Hell you say.

I'm pretty sure I bought my carpeting during a Presidents' Day Sale.

11. Been in retail for years
and perhaps some stores are busy, but what I have seen of sales on the holiday are mostly a bust and I think they would do better being closed, but the brain trust that runs the places seems to think otherwise.

13. That reminds me of this lady on this furnature store commercial
who has to have the most obnoxious voice in the world. My mom's like "I think her voice would have to put off people from shopping there."

21. Shopping on the Fourth?
Dear God! Personally, I will be performing the Declaration of Independence in full 1776 costume but with a mime nuance while my husband plays the accordian and my cat plays the harmonica and twirls around in circles.
