Yesterday CNN released Bush's "Favorability" rating, and aptly noted that it is at it's lowest point ever, 46%. You have to be careful here...this is his "FAVORABILITY" rating, a barometer on how much people like the president. It is NOT the same as his "JOB APPROVAL" rating, those numbers which are so low, they swirl counterclockwise in Australia. CNN did a short segment on the differences yesterday, clearly pointing out how terrible these numbers are for Bush.
But what about this morning? New day, new interpretation. I just watched the morning crew post their usual screen graphics touting Bush's poll numbers. Sure enough, there is the screen with his "46% APPROVAL RATING," now with none of the explanatory banter. The clear implication to those who've seen the miserable mid-30's "Job Approval" is that Bush is doing much better, right? That's how they played it up. A new poll showing 46% Favorability for the President! YAY!
Finally, one of the news bimbo's piped up -- "But that's not the same as the 'Job Approval' number, right?" A quick brush aside of the question led to explain how Laura Bush's Favorability is at 75%, but short shrift given to the differences between the two poll numbers, and no mention of what that Job Approval number actually is, even for comparison.
Keep 'em confused. Baffle 'em will bullshit. Kill us with you lies, you mother fuckers!
(As an amusing aside, I've thoroughly enjoyed watching Miles O'Solidad squirming and whining about his new Manhattan condo, purchased just as the bubble burst. He whines about it every day. Hey Miles, you asshole...here's some NEWS for you, Mr. Newsman -- anyone at DU could have told you about the real estate bubble if you'd actually check in every now and then to research some of the stories you...oh, wait, you don't research anything, do you? You just sit and read whatever some idiot feeds into the Telepromptr for you. Never mind.)
