Pelosi taps Silvestre for intelligence post

December 1, 2006

WASHINGTON (AP) -- House Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi has chosen a Border-Patrol-agent-turned-congressman to take over the House Intelligence Committee, according to congressional aides.

The two aides, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they considered it an internal party issue, confirmed that Democratic leaders are contacting congressional and other political officials to tell them Rep. Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, will be the new chairman of the committee when Democrats take control in January.

2. looks like a good thing to me
she was able to side-step Harman, and Hastings has a bad rep for ethics. She's keeping her promises.

3. Woooooo-HOOOOOO!!!!!1
I saw HARMAN numerous times on the yak shows as the stand-in Dem, and I was never thrilled with her. She was always mealy mouthed and kow towed to the Rethugs. Supposedly she was one of the few Dems with access to all those dirty intel secrets of the Shrubbites, yet she never blew any whistles.

So Silvestre ("Silver" is an acceptable diminuative is NUMERO THREE-OH. The guy on Hardball said, "Nobody's ever HEARD of him."

The national Dems seem to fly into a mindless tizzy every time the Rethugs play the Uncle Tom card by naming INCOMPETENT minority members (Clarence, ESTRADA, GONZALES), Dems running around holding their heads in their hands, yelling, "Oh, NOOOO, what are we going to DOOOO???" And Orrin HATCH puts on his best Shirley TEMPLE pout and goes on all of the yak shows saying, "I don't UNDERSTAND how the Dems can oppose a MINORITY member!!!!" Our Dem answer should be VERY simple: We don't oppose MINORITIES. We oppose WINGNUTS, so it doesn't MATTER that ESTRADA is a minority. It's enough that he is a WINGNUT, puppet or not, just WINGNUT.

Silvestre is COMPETENT, a former Regional boss of the Border Patrol for many years. Somebody posted this link pinning just about all of his votes on issues. It shows a more Center-RIGHT bent than I had expected. What, from El Paso his district includes large Redneck areas?

Anyway, I responded, "Thanks for the excellent link. And, yes, he DOES have a Center-RIGHT bent: He IS from Texas, after all."
