U.S. Delegation
Former U.S. President George H.W. Bush will attend the swearing-in ceremony, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico said in an e- mail statement. U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez will also attend, according to the statement. Ramirez Acuna is known as a governor willing to use force as well as incentives to resolve conflicts, said Jorge Chabat, a political science professor at the Center for Economic Research and Teaching in Mexico City.
``He is a politician who knows how to get things done the old-fashioned way with a carrot and stick approach,'' Chabat said in a telephone interview. ``I don't know if that's the way things should be in a democracy, but it will probably work.''
Speaking at today's news conference, Ramirez Acuna promised to maintain order and apply the law to attack corruption and impunity.
``Together we will return to Mexicans the peace and tranquility that they need to work and that is required to spur development in every corner of the country,'' he said.
