Poll question: DU's Favorite Senator?
Just curious. (No I didn't include any of the Senator elects. They're not in yet)

1. All of the above
Each have done something remarkable and politically brave. Each deserve the honors and support they get here at DU. It's like asking which child you love more ... you love them each equally for their different qualities. JMHO.

8. Chuck Schumer
As chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, he skillfully won back the Senate for the Democrats in the last election. This was an amazing feat and it will help Democrats fend off wacky GOP legislation in the next two years. Taking back the Senate was Huge!

Yes, Chuckie (and Rahm) almost single-handedly won back Congress. But Mrs. Clinton also deserves some credit, for her blistering attacks-by-proxy on Dean. Unless we keep him in his place - that is, far away from the DNC - Mr. Dean will destroy the Democratic party.

is way down on my list, for reasons both close to home- she supported the International Paper tire burn that would have sent plumes of vile and dangerous chemicals across Lake Champlain into Vermont, she has been terrible on Iraq, and now she's meeting with Avigdor Lieberman, one of the more repugnant racists I can think of.

They had a survey some time ago and listed all the bills and legislation that Ted Kennedy had introduced and finally pushed to pass that had benefited the people of this country. It said he is one of the best Senators that fights FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

Why do you think the republicans, their vile spewers and the right wing nut posters go after him all the time. Because he has and will continue to make a difference. And he does not back down. In his own quiet he 'KEEPS ON GOING. Thank God for him and other caring senators like him.

66. Feingold, Leahy, and McCain are the only sitting Senators against the Telecomm Act...
Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 12:04 AM by calipendence
The Telecomm Act, which Clinton SHOULD have vetoed, that has given us this over-consolidated right wing media machine, and also tried to give us things like the unconstitutional civil liberties depriving Communications Decency Act. Paul Simon (now retired) and the much missed Paul Wellstone were the only others voting against it.

I like both what Russ pushes that might not be popular at the time (Censure, etc.), as well as things he votes against when it's "out of style" (Telecomm Bill, Patriot Act, etc.). The man is all about doing what's right, not just being on someone's bandwagon. I wish many more senators could be like him. We wouldn't be near the trouble we are in now if there were.

as is Boxer. I like Kerry a lot as well. He's intelligent and usually thoughtful, though not the greatest politician.

I like my own two senators - Levin and Stabenaw. Both are great, even though Stabenaw has had a few lousy votes in recent years.

Durbin, Leahy, Obama are some other good ones.

I can't think of a senator I'll agree with 100% of the time, but those I listed are usually close to my politics. I am sometimes annoyed by my own state's senators and congresspeople (even Conyers at times) pandering to the auto industry, but their pandering isn't quite as bad as Hillary and Chuck's pandering to the financial industry in NY.

78. I was just trying to give an honest honest answer about .............
about the original post. Without Joe we would be so impoverished about things to debate :-)

Btw Barbara Boxer-OUR Senator, is my favorite Senator too

77. The question was about senators
but you have a point about Kucinich. He doesn't receive the respect he desrves.

75. I know this won't sit well
with the majority of people here, but I think that a Leiberman/Bayh ticket would be a shoo-in in 2008.
A ticket like this would pull most of the undecideds from the center to our side.
