The Real Cost Of Outsourcing Jobs & Busting Unions

Since Alaska Airlines fired over 500 employees that were handling baggage services they have been in a PublicRelations Tailspin....The local media has done EXPOSES on Alaska relationship with a ground service company called Menzies seems to lack any solid communication link.......Alaska got rid of their ramp workers in an effort to save 13 million $$ a year in operations cost....The GS company has been violating airport security rules, speeding on the ramp, damaging aircraft and custonmer bags, these have increased expiditously since Menzie has taken over....The below is a story of their latest escapade.....

http://komotv.com/stories/40979.htm

"SEATTLE - A foot-long hole in the fuselage of an Alaska Airlines jet caused the plane to lose cabin pressure, forcing the crew to make an emergency descent from 26,000 feet and return to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, authorities said Tuesday."

The official cost of Alaskas attempt to save $$$ is now turning into bad PR.....last year they boasted of record profits and great customer service.....Time will only tail(LOL) how this lastest stunt fairs into their continuing to be profitable.

2. Sometimes,
you DO get what you pay for. Save a few bucks hiring unskilled labor, you'll more than pay for it someplace else. Too bad, when I lived in Alaska a long time ago, I really liked Alaska Air.

3. The CEOs are not to blame. The major shareholders on the board are...

to blame. They are the ones that ultimately own the company, and if they want the CEO to cut costs, then by God, thy will be done.

The only reason why they invest in any company is to make a profit. They feel they can make more of a profit if they cut back on operating costs, which usually translates into attacking the wellbeing of the workers. They're just in it to make money.

They're so short-sighted that it's sad. In the immediate future, yes, it may mean they are getting more money, but in the long-run, it may affect the survivability of the company itself. Poorly treated workers will translate into poorer service and lower productivity, and in such a situation, the company becomes vulnerable to upstarts that are leaner and treat their workers relatively better. Their workers would be more motivated and have higher productivity, and they would be in a position to drive the greed-rotten company into the ground.

Of course, I don't think the current members of the board care. They will have long divested themselves of their company and cashed in their earnings, or they'd be dead long before they see the company crumble. That's the problem capitalism has never really solved: Excessive self-interest.

4. Alaska Airlines is sucking big time
They used to be a great airline to fly on. With extra emphasis on "used to be".

And for those who think Alaska Air is the only game to Alaska, there are other airlines that fly up there.
